Saratoga: Key Horses for Sunday, August 29

Saratoga picks

Hell of a day of racing yesterday at Saratoga and the superstars answered the bell. However, that meant for a chalky day and the Ductor needs to feed Skip. Can’t pay the bills with 2/5’s, more opportunities today. Let’s Ride.

Saratoga Race 1: 6 Furlongs. Clm 12500

#6 First Homestead (6/1) – This gelding is in razor sharp form and draws nicely to the outside. His figures fit with this group and the Ductor sees #1 Moonachie (4/5) as very beatable.

Race 2: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) MC 50000

#10 Everesting (7/2) – He ran a very good 2nd at this level last time dueling from the rail. He has the early speed to clear this field and will be tough to catch without any early pressure.

Race 9: 1 Mile. (Inner Turf) Better Talk Now Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #3 Wolfie’s Dynaghost (8/1) – This colt has shown talent in his young career, winning on debut and off the bench for a barn that rarely does so. In his first try on turf last time, he had no chance pressing a quick pace going longer. Facing a much weaker group and shortening in distance today, he’s bred to be better on the lawn and the Ductor sees him running a more representative effort today. He can surprise this group at a nice number.

Whitney Stakes Day is the best card of the meet so far. Prepare and conquer. Let’s Ride

Race 3: Race 3: 6 Furlongs. Alw 103000n1x

#1 Life Changer (6/1) – This colt showed talent winning on debut last summer and pressed a wicked pace off a year layoff last time out. Shortening in distance today, he has the early pace figures to clear this field from the rail and can take a big step forward. He won’t change your life, but he can make your day.

Race 6: Race 6: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) LureL120K

#9 South Bend (12/1) – Exiting tougher on dirt, this colt has gotten some tough trips in his last few raes. He can run just fine on turf and Rosario fits his running style nicely. The Ductor thinks he can surprise this group.

Race 7: 1½ Mile. (Inner Turf) F.G2 Glens Falls Stakes

#3 War Like Goddess (8/5) – This filly has a thunderous late kick and she will get pace to run at in this one. The Ductor can’t find any alternatives.

Race 8: 7 Furlongs. F.G1 Longines Test Stakes

#2 Souper Sensational (6/1) – With a clean trip last time she showed what she can do sprinting and she’s working even better entering today. She has as good a chance as any in here and she’ll be a fair number.

Race 9: 1 3/16 Mile. (Turf) G1 Saratoga Derby Invitational Stakes

#7 Secret Protector (6/1) – A European will win this race, that the Conductor knows. Which one? He doesn’t have a strong opinion but he will put this colt on top. Appleby runners fire consistently in their first start in the states and this colt has yet to run a bad race.

Race 10: 1 1/8 Mile. G1 Whitney Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #3 Swiss Skydiver (6/1) – This is quite the race even with a small field and the Ductor is going for the latch. She ran a dud last time, but had a foot issue, so the Ductor will excuse her one more time. Her race in the Preakness last year can win this race and one of her best races was in the Alabama over this track. The Ductor still thinks this mare is a freak and will take a swing that she upsets the boys again today.
