The Conductor’s Woodward Stakes Day Plays at Saratoga

This where the Conductor is at heading into Saratoga’s final Saturday. Be good to him pony gods on Woodward Stakes Day, Let’s Ride.

Race 1: 1 1/16 Mile. (Inner Turf) Mdn 90k

#1 Structor (2/1) – 850k Chad Brown 1st timer. It’s Scructor for the Conductor in the first.

Race 2: 5 ½ Furlongs. (Turf) Clm 40000n2L

#2 No Regrets (7/2) – The Conductor regrets nothing about his decision to live his life on the rails.

Race 3: 6 Furlongs. F.G2 Prioress Stakes

#5 Royal Charlotte (4/1) – Dropping out of a loaded G1 Test stakes where she was heavily bet, The Conductor likes that Chad brings her back quickly. She’s drawn nicely to the outside and the Conductor thinks the odds on favorite #3 Break Even (1/2) is vulnerable.

Race 4: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) OC 62500n2x

#4 Fig Jelly (5/2) – She should get the lone lead in this turf sprint and that’s all the Conductor needs to see.

Race 5: 7 Furlongs. Mdn 90k

#8 Mud Pie (10/1) – This colt debuts for a small barn that has a winner from only two starters this meet. He’s posting solid works, his sire is 16% with 1st timers and his dam has produced a stakes winner. The Conductor has that feeling in his left knee that he’s going to pop.

Race 6: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) G3 Saranac Stakes

#2 Good Governance (2/1) – Chad Brown

Race 7: 7 Furlongs. Mdn 90k

#4 Extreme Force (8/1) – She hasn’t broken well in her 1st two career starts but showed talent in her debut, running 3rd in a race that has come back live. With a clean break today, she’ll have every chance at a nice number.

Race 8: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) Mdn 90k

#1 Get Set (5/1) – Exiting two decent sprint efforts on dirt, he stretches out and tries turf for the 1st time. Trainer Steve Klesaris is 17% with a +$2.75 ROI moving horses to the lawn for the 1st time this year.

Race 9: 7 Furlongs. F.Alw 92000n1x

#3 Arrifana (7/2) – This filly looked like the goods in her debut and is working like a monster entering today.

Race 10: 1 1/8 Mile. (Turf) G2 Glens Falls Stakes

#2 Fools Gold (5/2) – One of the Chad Brown runners will win this race, you passengers figure out which one.

Race 11: 1 1/8 Mile. G1 Woodward Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #4 Mongolian Groom (15/1) – This gelding is in good form and has run two bang up races in a row. He was only beaten a length by Catalina Cruiser two back and he hung on for 3rd after chasing a lone front-runner around the track in the Pacific Classic last time out. He looks to get a great trip sitting in the first flight of runners behind a moderate pace up front today and there aren’t any superstars in this field. The Conductor is going to key him in the exacta and trifecta and use mainly the three runners exiting the Whitney around him (#3 Vino Rosso (7/2), #5 Preservationist (7/2) and #7 Yoshida (5/2). This will be a great rendition of the Woodward Stakes.

Race 12: 6 Furlongs. Mdn 90k

#4 Tolerant (4/1) – The Chad Brown and Pletcher trainees are the ones to beat, but this 1st timer catches the Conductor’s eye. He posted a bullet 46 flat work two back and his sire is winning at a 16% clip with runners in their debut. This jockey/trainer combo is also red hot.

…..BYU did not go well for the Conductor. American Power at 7/2 in race 8 was the Conductor’s best opinion yesterday at Saratoga. However, we need more big prices running in. Only 4 days left in the meet, Let’s Ride.

Race 1: 7 Furlongs. Mdn 78k

#7 Financialstability (2/1) – The Conductor likes his work tap b for Chad and he has what the Conductor will never have.

Race 2: 1 1/8 Mile. Clm 12500

#8 Kahramani (9/2) – He stumbled at the start and was fanned wide last start. He’ll improve 2nd off the layoff and will be a fair price.

Race 3: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) S.MC 40000

#6 Exchange Fever (6/1) – This colt showed ability in his debut last summer at Saratoga, pressing a hot pace and only beaten 1 ¾ lengths vs tougher. Coming in fresh off a long layoff, this is a weak group and he has the most upside.

Race 4: 6 Furlongs. OC 100000b

#1 Wonderful Light (2/1) – The other contenders are wildcards in here, coming in off long layoffs. This horse is making his 3rd start of the year and is in good form, the Conductor trusts him.

Race 5: 1 Mile. (Inner Turf) F.Alw 40000s

*Gullet Shot of the Day #3 Bramble Queen (8/1) – 2nd off the layoff, she’s a mile specialist and looks to get a perfect trip today with a hot pace in front to run at.

#3 Shandian (6/1) – This colt pressed a scorching pace and still hung on for 3rd in his first try on turf last start. 6/1 would be a mouthwatering price.

#3 Leaveuwithasmile (4/1) – She showed good early speed in her debut and hung on for 3rd behind an impressive runner. She’ll be in a good spot early and should improve with experience.

#4 Noble Jewel (8/1) – Stretching out to a route for the 1st time last start, she made a move on the turn and then flattened out. She broke her maiden impressively in her debut, is lightly raced, and will appreciate the shorter distance today.

She’s stretching out and trying the grass for the first time and her breeding has some turf influences. #8 Lemonist (4/1) – Last time was too long for him and he still ran a good 2nd at this level. 3rd off the layoff and shortening to his preferred distance, the Conductor gives him a major chance to upset the chalk.

7 Onward (7/2) – Drawn well to the outside for strong connections, this boy is well bred and working well.

#4 Stretchthestory (6/1) – The Conductor likes her work tab best and the Alvarado/Clement jockey/trainer combo are a scorching 4/6 with a +$6.38 ROI at the Saratoga meet.

#4 Waynes Footsteps (7/2) – Making his 2nd start for Brad Cox, he took a big step forward last start, pressing a hot pace and holding on for 3rd. The Conductor sees another improvement coming.

Race 3: 1 1/8 Mile. F.S. Fleet Indian Stakes 200k

#4 Wait a Minute (6/1) – In her two starts routing, she’s won with ease. She’s working well entering today and Finger Lakes shippers have surprised at big prices this meet.

#7 Cleon Jones (8/1) – His maiden breaker last start at Saratoga is the fastest performance this field has on the Conductor’s numbers. 8/1 would be a treat.

#8 Dot Matrix (9/2) – 2nd off the layoff for Brad Cox, he’s been facing open company and has very strong late pace figures. He looks to get a perfect trip today, with a hot pace to run at.

#1 Daddy Knows (12/1) – Stretching back out to the distance he won two starts back. The Conductor really liked his effort that day pressing a hot pace. He is steadily progressing for strong connections.

#13 Nasty Affair (5/2) – A MTO that draws in, nobodies horses improve more in their 2nd career start than Linda Rice’s

#7 Tony Small (6/1) – He showed ability in his first two career starts and hasn’t shown much in his last two. He’s had some time off and has been gelded since his last. Nothing can wake a horse up like a clipping.

Off the turf today like the Conductor expected. Here are his changes after scratches at Saratoga. Let’s Ride.

Saratoga

Race 1: Cancelled

#1 South of the Shore (8/5) – 2nd behind Dunbar Road who came back to win the Alabama on Saturday. 8/5 in a 5-horse field would not be a bad price.

Race 3: 5 ½ Furlongs. MC 75000

#4 Rejected Again (2/1) – He’s most likely, the Conductor doesn’t have a strong opinion in here.

Race 4: 1 5/8 Mile. (OFF Turf) John Call Stakes 100k

#1 Highland Sky (5/2) – His last 7 races have been against G1 or G2 company. He’s facing a very weak field now that its on the dirt and the Conductor will bet his class will translate over.

Race 5: 5 ½ Furlongs. F.S.Mdn 78k

#2 Sophie Rules (9/2) – This filly is working well and the Jose Ortiz/Englehart jockey/trainer combo have been red hot this meet.

Race 6: 1 1/16 Mile. (OFF Turf) Mdn 75k

#2 Justintimeforwine (15/1) – The Conductor still likes this boy to hit the board at a huge number. She was favorited sprinting on dirt at Saratoga two starts back, which tells the Conductor she has more talent than she’s shown.

Race 7: 7 Furlongs. Clm 20000n3L

*Gullet Shot of the Day #2 Autostrade (6/1) – Switching back to dirt and cutting back to a sprint, he made an early move into a hot pace last time. The Conductor loves him here.

Saratoga

Race 8: 5 ½ Furlongs. (OFF Turf) F.Clm 50000b

#8 Morisette (8/1) – Dropping back to the claiming ranks today, she was favored against much tougher last time and had trouble at the break. With a clean break, she’ll have every chance. She won her lone start on a sloppy track, so the Conductor will still ride with her.

Race 9: 6 Furlongs. S.Alw 80000n1x

#3 Our Last Buck (8/1) – Switching back to dirt at Saratoga and dropping out of open company, his race two back at Aqueduct would be tough for this field to beat. 2nd off the layoff, he’ll be ready to roll.

Race 10: 5 ½ Furlongs. (OFF Turf) F.Clm 40000n2L

#6 Zandora (5/1) – 1st off the claim, the Conductor is sticking to his guns again. Dirt or turf, her early pace figures give her an edge.

Del Mar

Race 1: 1 Mile. (Turf) S.Mdn 61k

#10 Bayonce (6/1) – The Conductor liked him in his debut and he took money at the windows. Stretching out on turf for the first time, the Conductor still thinks he has talent and he’ll be a nice price.

Race 2: 1 Mile. F.Clm 25000n3L

#4 Atina (3/1) – She’s steadily progressing and her last performance will be tough for this group to beat.

Race 3: 5 Furlongs. (Turf) F.Mdn 61k

#1 Secret Square (4/1) – Switching to turf for strong connections, she was well bet in her debut on dirt. None of the 1st time starters in here look playable to the Conductor.

Race 4: 1 Mile. Mdn 61k

#2 Still in the Game (5/1) – Switching back to dirt, his race two back will give him every chance.

Race 5: 1 Mile. (Turf) Clm 32000n1y

#4 Mauraud Khan (5/2) – Shipping in from Churchill an making his first start for trainer Leonard Powell, he’s a cut above these California turf horses.

Race 6: 1 Mile. Harry F. Brubaker Stakes

#5 Line Judge (7/2) – Dropping out of Grade 1 company where he didn’t embarrass himself, he gets back to his favorite distance today. He looks to get a perfect trip stalking a hot pace.

Race 7: 5 Furlongs. (Turf) OC 80000n1x

*Never a Doubt Humpday Best Bet #4 Hartel (4/1) – This girl took a step forward last start and ran her best last year sprinting on this turf course. Prat taking the mount is a great sign.

Saratoga

Race 8: 6 Furlongs. Mdn 100k

#1 Railsplitter (7/2) – Cutting back to a sprint and switching back to a sprint, he was favored last start and ran well pressing a hot pace. Only 125k at auction, this spot looks perfect for him.
