Saratoga Saturday Picks & Best Bets — August 16, 2025 | Full Card Analysis

Several horses racing on a dirt track with jockeys in colorful uniforms during a horse racing event.

Another good Saturday for the Conductor last week, going 2/3 with 4/1 and 5/1 winners. August has been kind to the passengers. Thank you Mr. Conductor, your generosity and genius knows no bounds. Keep pounding. Skip.

Race 5: 1 3/8 Mile. (Inner Turf) OC 50000n1x

#5 Il Siciliano (4/1) – This colt ran huge last time, making an early wide move and was game to the wire. He’s overcome terrible turf trips multiple times this year to run 2nd at big odds. He’s the only horse in the field that loves this distance and the Conductor thinks this is a weak bunch. Il Sicilliano finally gets his picture taken today. 3/1 or better is fair.

Race 10: 1 1/4 Mile. F.Alabama G1 Alabama Stakes

#1 Margie’s Intention (8/1) – The Conductor doesn’t like any of the favorites in here, so he’s going to take a shot with the “other” Cox runner. She’s improved since moving into the Cox barn and ran better than it looks last time with a wide trip into a slow pace. She ran the best late pace figure in the field and will appreciate the added distance, unlike most of the contenders. Saving all the ground with a rail trip, the Conductor will key her in the feature.

Race 11: 1 1/16 Mile. (Inner Turf) Clm 35000n2L

#7 Landman Friday (6/1) – This colt ran well vs tougher off the bench last time. He has the strongest late pace figures in the field, and this race should have an honest pace. He’ll appreciate the added distance today and should improve 2nd off a layoff.

Saratoga Alabama Stakes Day Picks — Saturday, August 19, 2023 | Full Card Handicapping

Alabama Stakes Saratoga

0/1 Thursday and off the turf Friday at Saratoga has the Conductor itching to fire his coal this weekend. The forecast looks good Saturday, so we SHOULD be on the turf throughout. We have a nice menu in front of us headlined by the Alabama Stakes. Time to eat, let’s Ride.

Race 3: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) F.Alw 149500n1x

#2 Georgees Spirit (9/2) – The Conductor has been waiting for this filly to pop back up after her seasonal debut at Aqueduct. She showed talent last year and her race last time was exactly what you want to see in a race off the bench. She waited patiently behind a slow pace and galloped out in front of the group. Georgees Spirit finally shows back up at Saratoga today, where she broke her maiden. She draws well, will have a hot pace to run at, and gets a major rider upgrade to Prat. She’ll start our Saturday off right.

Race 9: 1 1/4 Mile. F.G1 Alabama Stakes

#9 Taxed (8/1) – It’s always a good feeling when you like a price in the feature. This filly has turned into a new animal as a 4-year-old. She romped off the bench in the Black-Eyed Susan two starts back and was best last time in the Indiana Oaks with a terrible trip. She was far back behind a tepid pace and ran a monstrous late pace figure after a wide move on the turn. Bejarano stays in the saddle, which is a concern. However, she’ll be a square price and is still worth a bet. Hopefully he Conductor will owe more coal to Uncle Sam after they hit the wire.

Saratoga Picks

Race 10: 1 Mile. (Inner Turf) OC 62500n2x

#2 Napoleonic War (7/2) – This gelding ran incredibly well off the bench from the 12-post last time at Saratoga. She was 4-wide and uncovered around both turns and just tired the final half furlong. Now she draws well to the inside and will be dead fit in her 2nd start off a layoff. These other rivals have gotten themselves involved in a land war in Asia. Skip

Let the Alabama Stakes Day Battle Begin!

Let’s Ride.

Race 1: 7 Furlongs. (OFF Turf) Mdn 90k

#8 Fort McHenry (3/1) – 1.1 million at auction and a strong work tab for Pletcher.

Race 2: 6½ Furlongs. F.Clm 75000

#4 Break Curfew (3/1) – 2nd off the layoff and shortening in distance, the Conductor sees her early speed holding today.

Race 3: 5½ Furlongs. (OFF Turf) MC 40000

#6 Game Boy Benny (8/1) – In a race moved to the dirt, his 2nd at Monmouth last time makes him the one to beat.

Race 4: 6 ½ Furlongs. Clm 14000

#4 Giant Boo Boo (5/2) – The Conductor sees the early pick 5 as very chalky.

Race 5: 1 3/8 Mile. OC 62500n2x

#6 Nakamura (6/1) – Stretching out to his best distance after two easy wins, he looks primed to run a monster race.

Race 6: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) Alw 92000n1x

#11 High Crime (6/1) – He’s shown real ability on dirt and ran very well stretching out for his first start on turf last time. Working well and cutting back to a sprint today, he’s very dangerous.

Race 7: 6½ Furlongs. Mdn 90k

#4 Candy Tycoon (2/1) – Word on the street is this boy is the goods for Pletcher.

Race 8: 5 ½ Furlongs. (Turf) Smart and Fancy Stakes

#5 Morticia (1/1) – She’s a cut above this group. The Conductor likes #8 Broadway Run (9/2) to run 2nd in the exacta.

Race 9: 1 1/16 Mile. (Inner Turf) F.G2 Lake Placid Stakes

#7 Wildlife (10/1) – This isn’t the strongest field the Conductor has ever seen and she’s shown a thunderous late kick in her last two victories. She’s stepping up in class, but the Conductor sees her hitting the board and spicing up the exacta and trifecta.

Race 10: 1 1/4 Mile. F. G1 Alabama Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #2 Lady Apple (6/1) – The Conductor loves her in this spot. Winner of 4 of her last 5, she’s steadily progressing and looks to get a great trip, up close to a moderate pace.

Alabama Stakes

Race 11: 7 Furlongs. F.S.Alw 80000n1x

#6 Take Me to Hardoon (5/1) – She’s working well off the layoff and Englehart thought highly enough of her to put her in G1 company following her debut. The Conductor loves her at a decent price in the finale.
