Aqueduct Friday Picks — May 10, 2024 | Best Bets & Handicapping Analysis

Aqueduct Picks

Ouster losing a photo Thursday was a nice hoof to the groin to start the racing week. Unfortunately, we’re off the turf today at Aqueduct when the Conductor had some prices up his sleeve. We’ll make do. Skip.

Race 5: 6 Furlongs. S.Mdn 75k

#1 Clancy Fancy (10/1) – This gelding took a big step forward off the bench last time. He lunged at the break and still showed early speed and hung on for 3rd. He’s lightly raced and now adds blinkers for the 1st time. The Conductor likes Clancy Fancy’s upside making his 2nd start off the layoff and 2nd start in the Englehart barn. Gate to wire.

Race 8: 7 Furlongs. F.S.OC 80000n1x

#1 Walk With Me (9/2) – They bet this filly to favoritism last time off a short break going 1 mile at this level. She dropped too far back behind a slow pace that day, but still grinded her way for 2nd. They add the blinkers to her for the 1st time today and she has shown early speed in the past. With a cleaner trip today she can beat this field with the scratch of the #6.

Race 9: 1 Mile. S.MC 40000

*Gullet Shot of the Day #3 Wo Hop (8/1) – This gelding took money vs maidens in his debut last time and ran poorly in the slop. With just a 42k purchase price, the drop to this level after one start doesn’t concern the Conductor at all. Also, there is no rain in the forecast the rest of the day and the track will be drying out by post time. Now making his 2nd career start for Mott with Lasix added on a good surface, he can take a big step forward. This is a very weak field after the surface change and scratches at Aqueduct. It wont take much for him to jump up and beat this group.

NYRA Thursday Picks — May 9, 2024 | Best Bets & Kentucky Derby Recap

NYRA Picks

The Kentucky Derby didn’t unfold the way the Conductor wanted. An unbelievable rail skimming ride by Brian Hernandez Jr. aboard Mystic Dan was the difference. However, Forever Young ran the best race. He didn’t have a great trip to start and was fouled repeatedly in the stretch by Sierra Leone who lugged in 6th paths. The fact that there wasn’t even an inquiry is a disgrace. If the Japanese horse was owned and trained by a big time American outfit, Sierra Leone gets DQ’d and put 3rd no question. Alas, the train continues onward and the Conductor is happy to get back to the NYRA where they finally have turf racing. The Conductor’s bread and butter. It’s coal mining season. Skip.

Race 1: 1 Mile. F.Mdn 90k

#1 Gioioso (3/1) – This filly had a brutal trip in her debut. She was bumped hard at the start, but had enough speed to put herself in a good position entering the turn. Paco then took her up sharply as she seemed to be making a potential winning move. This looked like a stiff job to the Conductor, as there was plenty of room to angle her out into the clear. She has major upside making just her 2nd career start in a race filled with average fillies

Race 4: 1 Mile. Clm 25000n2L

#4 Fighting Back (2/1) – The Conductor trusts this colt to find the winner’s circle more than any other horse on the NYRA card. He likes that Linda Rice spotted him aggressively off the bench last time. He ran better than it looks with a wide trip that day and now drops in class to take on a much weaker group. Fighting Back won’t be a big price, but you can confidently single her.

Race 7: 1 1/8 Mile. OC 80000b

*Gullet Shot of the Day #1 Ouster (4/1) – This gelding won his comeback race last last time sprinting. He closed behind a slow pace in a race that was likely a prep for this spot. He’s shown he’s best routing and stretches back out in distance today. He’ll get a nice ground saving trip stalking the speed and pounce entering the stretch.

NYRA Aqueduct: Key Horses for Saturday, November 19

A competitive horse race begins at Aqueduct with multiple jockeys and horses in action, showcasing the excitement of thoroughbred racing.

The Ductor apologizes for no picks yesterday. Unacceptable.  Very difficult card today at NYRA should some meaty prices. The type of card that gets the Ductor’s juices flowing. Let’s Ride.

NYRA Aqueduct Race 3: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) OC 62500n2x

#7 Space Launch (4/1) – The Ductor will fade the favorite #2 Analyze It (5/2), who has disappointed many times at short prices. Space Launch is making just his 4th start of his 4-year-old season and 2nd off a short break. He showed ability last year and ran well last time going longer. He shortens to his best distance today and looks primed for a peak effort.

#1 It Can Be Done (5/1) – This gelding hit the board in two graded stakes races last year. He’s been disappointing so far in 2022, but showed improvement after switching to the Pletcher barn last time. Now making his 2nd start in Todd’s program, he’s very dangerous.

Race 7: 1 1/16 Mile. (Outer Turf) Gio Ponti Stakes

#6 Dakota Gold (9/2) – In a wide open race on paper, the Ductor will be leaning heavily on this colt. He’s yet to run a bad race in his career and has only been passed by horses in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. He’ll get a good trip today up close to a moderate pace and we should get this morning line price.

Race 10: 6 Furlongs. F.S.MC 40000

*Double Barreled Gullet Shots of the Day #5 Ma Mi Jo Dreams (8/1) – This filly has shown speed vs tougher and now drops to the claiming ranks for the first time. Speed is always dangerous in these races and this small barn is adept making this move. Schosberg is 3/5 with a +$7.80 ROI this year dropping maidens to claimers for the 1st time this year.

#6 Irish Empress (12/1) – This filly took money in debut vs tougher and showed early speed. She then ran a solid race on turf and a bad one over a sloppy track. She’ll return to a fast dirt track today and has shown some hidden ability in her races. Getting the class relief she needs the Ductor sees her running a big one.

Aqueduct: Key Horses for Thursday, November 17

Exciting horse race featuring jockeys in colorful silks competing on a dirt track, showcasing speed and athleticism.

This is a solid Thursday card at Aqueduct with full fields. Let’s hope scratches keep it in tact. The Ductor has honed in on two longshots. Skip.

Aqueduct Race 4: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) F.Alw 50000s

*Gullet Shot of the Day #8 Lady Firefoot (10/1) – The Ductor has bet this filly in all of her turf starts since her debut, where she showed talent with a brutal trp. She finally graduated at Aqueduct last time sprinting and now stretches out for the second time. In her first try going two turns she got a criminal ride by Castellano. She was hung wide pressing a quick pace the entire journey. Today, she draws an outside post with the same rider, but there is no speed to her inside. She should have no problem getting over to the rail going into the first turn and the Ductor sees her upsetting this weak allowance field. Today we recoup all of the coal this lady has cost the Ductor and much, much more.

aqueduct

Race 8: 6 Furlongs. S.OC 45000n2x

#2 Nueva York (15/1) – In a wide open state bred allowance race with many contenders coming in off form, the Ductor will make a case for a bomb. This gelding has been taking on weaker at Finger Lakes, but he’s consistent and his speed figures fit with this group. He had no chance last time stalking a slow pace in a race that produced multiple next out winners. He’ll get a good setup today with multiple speed horses in this field. He’s 2/4 over this Aqueduct surface. Trainer Stacy Torelli has a flat +$0.84 ROI this year and the Ductor can smell she has another live longshot here.

BAQ and Keeneland: Key Horses for Saturday, October 29

View of the Keeneland paddock area with spectators observing horses and handlers in a grassy setting.

Outatadore getting bet down to 5/2? You selfish passengers, think about the Ductor one time. Still a strong Friday at Keeneland, let’s keep up the momentum. Skip.

Aqueduct

Race 9: 6 Furlongs. G3 Bold Ruler Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #8 Runninsonofagun (9/2) – This colt has gotten sneaky good this year, not being embarrassed by the likes of Gunite and Jack Christopher. Then he got away from those monsters at Parx last time, he got a trip from hell and still rallied for a strong 3rd off a dead rail. Facing an even weaker group today, the Ductor is salivating at this morning line.

keeneland

Race 10: 1 1/16 Mile. (Outer Turf) Alw 50000s

#5 Six Minus (6/1) – This gelding continues to progress with each start for Pletcher and ran well last time off the bench at Kentucky Downs. He now shortens in distance, draws well and Prat hops aboard. There is a lot to like at 6/1.

Keeneland

Race 4: 7 Furlongs. F.Alw 110000n1x

#2 Hypersport (9/2)#7 Olga Isabel (9/5) is a solid favorite, but the Ductor likes this fillies upside and she’ll be a much better price. She’s shown ability in her young career and ran races in the spring around par for this level. She enters today off a long layoff and developed physically with natural maturity. Add a strong work tab and a weight break today, the Ductor sees her running a career best.

Race 9: 1 1/8 Mile. G2 Hagyard Fayette Stakes

#5 King Fury (8/1) – The small field really hurts the feature race, however the Ductor likes this colt quite a bit. He ran some really strong races as a 2-year-old and has improved in his first two starts at 3. His last race was also better than it looks on paper without the best trip vs tougher horses than he will see today. Making his third start off the layoff, he’s ready to fire a big one.

Aqueduct: Key Horses for Thursday, December 2

Four horses and jockeys racing on a snowy track with a blurred background.

The Ductor is focusing on only the dirt races with potential snow. A solid three whack at Aqueduct to start the racing week. Let’s Ride.

NYRA Aqueduct Race 1: 1 Mile. Mdn 80k

#1 Rock Sugar (4/1) – The Ductor played him last time and he got a terrible trip and ride. His race behind Risk Taking last year would beat this group and the Ductor likes the added distance for him today. He gets a rider upgrade too.

Race 4: 7 Furlongs. F.OC 80000n1x

*Gullet Shot of the Day #3 Boss Lady Kim (6/1) – They thought enough of this filly to ship her to Saratoga and run in a Grade 2 after her debut. She was eased in that race and came ran to run a very strong 3rd with major trouble last time. Jose takes the mount for a barn he rarely rides for, and the Ductor is leery of the odds-on favorite who ran a big number in the slop on debut.

See the source image

Race 9: 1 1/8 Mile. Mdn 80k

Gunton Roe (6/1) – While this colt was well bet on debut and had a no chance trip where he made a sustained wide move on the turn. He puts blinkers on today and the Ductor sees him taking a big step forward.

Aqueduct: Late Pick 4 Key Horses for Sunday, December 13

Horses racing on the track at Aqueduct Racetrack with spectators in the background.

Let’s end the weekend strong at Aqueduct. Skip

Aqueduct Race 6: 7 Furlongs. F.S.Clm 25000

#3 Cartwheel (9/2) – Taking a big drop in class here, there is absolutely no early speed in this race. She does her best running on the lead and if she’s forwardly placed, she’ll have every chance.

Race 7: 1 Mile. Clm 16000

*Atom Bomb Whack of the Day #5 Brush Country (30/1)#9 Flowers for Lisa (5/2) is probably the one to beat, but the Conductor will be keying this bomb in the exacta and tri. Dropping in class and stretching out to a route for the first time in a long time, he has numbers that fit for this level. He will be forwardly placed and will be an overlay because of his low % trainer.

Aqueduct

Race 8: 1 Mile. F.OC 62500n2x

#5 Daphne Moon (2/1) – She showed talent as a two-year-old and ran a good 2nd witha strong late pace figure last time off the bench at Aqueduct. 2nd off the layoff today, the Conductor thinks she’ll handle this field.

Aqueduct Race 9: 6 Furlongs. F.Clm 16000n2L

#1 Well Brush Mytooth (8/1) – The Conductor doesn’t have a strong opinion in here, but this girl ran well off the layoff last time and should step forward today. She looks to get a favorable trip as well, up close to a moderate pace.

Aqueduct: Late Pick 5 Key Horses for Thursday, December 10

A competitive horse race begins at Aqueduct with multiple jockeys and horses in action, showcasing the excitement of thoroughbred racing.

What a late pick 5 sequence for a Thursday at Aqueduct with full, competitive fields. What more could a Ductor ask for? Skip.

Race 5: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.Mdn 80k

*Throat Shot Thursday Whack of the Day #6 Palm Court (15/1) – She was bet for favoritism in her debut and didn’t run a step. Then last time in a race taken off the turf, she ran decent with a very wide trip. Stretching out for the first time and switching back to her preferred surface today, the Conductor like her upside.

Aqueduct

Race 6: 1 Mile. S.Alw 72000n1x

#5 Advanced Strategy (8/1) – Switching back to the Aqueduct dirt today, he ran a very strong 2nd last time closing into a slow pace. He’s shown he can run on dirt and looks to get a nice setup here with a hot pace to run at.

Race 7: 1 Mile. Clm 16000n2L

#6 Dangerous Edge (6/1) – Stretching out to a route for the first-time 2nd off the claim for Noda, he gets the Conductor’s spider senses tingling. He has the figs to beat this group and looks to get a good trip.

Race 8: 6 Furlongs. (Outer Turf) F.S.Alw 72000n1x

#5 Fresco (8/5) – A beaten favorite in her last two starts at Aqueduct makes the Conductor uneasy, but she should beat this field. If she doesn’t win, anyone can. She moved early last time and she gets a rider upgrade to Rosario here.

Race 9: 6 Furlongs. MC 20000

#3 Lady’s Boy (10/1) – He was well bet in his debut at Saratoga and showed brief before fading on a sloppy track. He’ll get her first try on a fast track today and could surprise at a big number.

Aqueduct: Late Pick 5 Key Horses for Sunday, December 6

Horses competing in a race at Aqueduct Racetrack with jockeys in colorful silks.

Not a great Saturday for the Conductor, as True Timber will continue to haunt his dreams. Hopefully you passengers were able to make a few bucks on the #Gullet Shot of the Day running 3rd at 50/1 in Race 8. Big Sunday at Aqueduct to close out the weekend. Skip!

Race 5: 1 Mile. S.OC 40000n x

*Gullet Shot of the Day #6 Klickitat (8/1) – This gelding intrigues the Conductor trying dirt for the first time. He’s exiting a strong race, is working well over the dirt and has good early speed in a race without much pace. The Conductor will key him in the exacta.

aqueduct

Race 6: 7 Furlongs. F.New York Stallion Series Stakes

#3 Shanes Pretty Lady (6/1) – Her debut win at Aqueduct was the most impressive race in this field. She didn’t do much running off the layoff last time, but the Conductor likes that Pletcher brings her back quickly and keeps her with stakes company. She gets a rider upgrade today as well.

Race 7: 6 Furlongs. F.Garland of Roses Stakes

#2 Saguaro Row (7/2) – This race looks to have a very contested early pace, which should set it up for a closer. This mare loves Aqueduct and Rosario is strong on closing sprinters.

Race 8: 7 Furlongs. S.New York Stallion Series Stakes

#7 Dreamer’s Disease (8/5) – The Conductor hates chalk, but she looks tough to beat.

Race 9: 1 Mile. F.MC 20000

#4 Kitten’s Romance (4/1) – This race hurts the Conductor’s brain. Dropping in class and switching from turf to dirt, she’s the one the Conductor likes most.

Aqueduct: Cigar Mile Late Pick 5 Key Horses

Exciting horse race featuring jockeys in colorful silks competing on a dirt track, showcasing speed and athleticism.

1 for 3 with a 5/2 winner and a scratch at Aqueduct Friday. Finally, we some quality weekend racing featuring the Cigar Mile. Let’s Ride.

Aqueduct Race 6: 1 Mile. F.G3 Go for Wand H.

#2 Portal Creek (8/1) – She held on nicely stretching out last time and should be able to get the early lead in here. She may be best at this distance and will be a nice number.

Race 7: 6 Furlongs. (Likely OFF Turf) F.Alw 82000n1x

#12 Sweet Kisses (7/2) – The Conductor likes her steady progression and she’s working well exiting a strong effort on a sloppy track.

Race 8: 1 Mile. F.S.Alw 72000n1x

*Gullet Shot of the Day #4 Ifihadachance (20/1) – Making her 2nd start in the Davivid Gonk barn today, she folded after being up close to a hot pace last time. She adds blinkers today, gets a weight break, and her figures at Finger Lakes fit with this group. She can light this thing up.

Cigar Mile

Race 9: 1 1/8 Mile. F.G2 Demoiselle Stakes

#7 Caramocha (15/1)#1 Malathaat (4/5) looks tough to beat, but if your looking for an alternative this girl is intriguing. Stretching out for the first time, she won easily in her debut at 99/1. The low % Mithell Friedman barn is 2/7 at this meet and she’ll be a big price again.

Race 10: 1 Mile. G1 Cigar Mile H.

#1 Performer (7/5) – Unfortunately, the slop takes the starch out of this field. This colt is a standout in here in the Conductor’s opinion.
