Saturday, November 7 – Race 8: 6 Furlongs. G1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint

#1 Echo Down (20/1) – This is one of the weakest sprint fields in recent memory, but it leaves it open for the Conductor to make some real money on some prices. This colt isn’t one of them, he’d be a surprise.

#2 C Z Rocket (7/2) – He’s become a new animal in the Peter Miller barn (shocker). He can absolutely win this race but at a short price the Conductor doesn’t love him in his  toughest challenge to date.

*Gullet Shot of the Day #3 Collusion Illusion (20/1)

A Grade 1 winner, he finished behind C Z Rocket last time, but he got a sneaky weird trip stuck inside and galloped out in front. The Conductor sees Prat putting in a good spot early and he has every chance in this open rendition of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.

#4 Bon Raison (30/1) – He got a favorable trip last time in a race that melted down. He’s not a Grade 1 horse.

#5 Manny Wah (30/1) – The exact same notes as Bon Raison.

#6 Frank’s Rockette (10/1) – This filly is taking on the boys today and this is a good spot to do it. She can scoot and wouldn’t shock him. Does he love her? No.

#7 Whitmore (15/1) – This old man is a warrior and will be running late with a hot pace in front. However, his last few races haven’t been great and he’ll only be used underneath.

*#8 Firenze Fire (8/1) – The Conductor is a big fan of this horse and he has a major chance to win. The only concern is that all his best races are at Belmont.

#9 Empire of Gold (30/1) – He won’t get as favorable of a trip as he did last time. No thanks.

#10 Yaupon (7/2) – Taking on older males for the first time, this boy will rocket to the front. He has the most upside in the field and could put on a show, but he hasn’t beaten anyone yet. In his first real test at a short price coming in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, the Conductor is leaning against him.

#11 Diamond Oops (8/1) – He’s a very cool, versatile horse that always runs his race. Can he win? Sure, but he’s not a true Grade 1 sprinter.

#12 Hog Creek Hustle (30/1) – He’ll be closing late, but he’s not good enough to get into the exacta.

#13 Jasper Prince (30/1) – A Japanese sprinter with inconsistent form? Pass.

#15 Lasting Legacy (30/1) – It will be tough to work out any sort of trip from here.

Picks: 3 – 8 – 2 – 10

Race 8: 6 Furlongs. G1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint

*#1 Catalina Cruiser (4/1) – He’s being forgotten about for a horse that has only lost one career start. He also looks to get a good trip sitting behind a hot pace. He’ll be on the Conductor’s tickets and thinks his price will float up a bit higher.

#2 Hog Creek Hustle (20/1) – This is a little too short and too tough for him to be a legit contender. He could come running for 3rd at best.

#3 Firenze Fire (12/1) – This colt has run some very fast races, but they’ve all come at Belmont Park. The price will be the deciding factor for the Conductor, but he’s leaning against him.

#4 Mitole (9/5) – The Conductor can’t knock him, but he can’t separate him from the other logical contenders.  He won’t be pressing him like others may.

#5 Engage (15/1) – He’s not in this class, 3rd at best.

*#6 Shancelot (4/1) – This colt has shown brilliance in his young career. The Conductor cannot ignore his potential and must use him. He’ll be the Conductor’s win bet if he goes off above 3/1. Navarro will make sure he has his vitamins.

#7 Whitmore (15/1) – This gelding’s best days are behind him, he’s a contender for 3rd.

#8 Landeskog (12/1) – Scratched

#9 Imperial Hint (4/1) – He is a serious sprinter and is drawn well to the outside. He’s been nails in his last two starts and he’ll be on all the Conductor’s tickets.

#10 Matera Sky (30/1) – He should have stayed in Japan.

Breeders’ Cup Sprint Breakdown

Breeders' Cup Sprint

Breeders’ Cup Sprint time, Let’s Ride.

Race 7: 6 Furlongs. G1 TwinSpires Breeders’ Cup Sprint

This race is wide open, there are a core group of top contenders, but there not much faster than the rest.  This is a tough race to figure out, but thankfully we have the Conductor.

Winning Contenders

*Top Pick #2 Promises Fulfilled (6/1) – There is going to be a fast pace in this race, but this is the old speed of the speed angle.  This colt is lightning and will go guns blazing on the front end.  At 6 furlongs the Conductor thinks he can hold on.  He has the guts to hold them off and the Conductor can’t wait get him home.

Breeders' Cup Sprint

#5 Imperial Hint (9/5) – He’s a great racehorse and obviously has a chance to win, but the Conductor thinks Promises Fulfilled’s early gas will pose a problem.  He hasn’t seen a pace like this since his race at Churchill in May, his worst in the last few years.  The Conductor may toss him.

#8 Limousine Liberal (6/1) – 6/8 lifetime at Churchill Downs, you can’t leave this gelding off your tickets.  He should get a perfect setup with a hot pace to run at and should be poised to run his best in his 3rd start off the layoff.

#9 Roy H (5/2) – The winner of last year’s sprint will tough to beat again.  Drawn well to the outside, he can sit just off the leaders and get a perfect trip.  He’s the likeliest runner to take down Promises Fulfilled and is the class of the race.

*Underneath Uppercut Body Shot #7 Distinctive B (12/1)

This old boy likes to run 2nd, but that’s all the Conductor is asking for.  He’ll be forwardly placed and has some speed figures that make him competitive on his best day.  He’s a Del Mar specialist, but he’s in career form and who’s to say he won’t love Churchill? Please run 3rd.
