The Conductor’s Plays at Saratoga and Del Mar

Off the turf today like the Conductor expected. Here are his changes after scratches at Saratoga. Let’s Ride.

Saratoga

Race 1: Cancelled

Race 2: 1 1/8 Mile. F.OC 25000n1x

#1 South of the Shore (8/5) – 2nd behind Dunbar Road who came back to win the Alabama on Saturday. 8/5 in a 5-horse field would not be a bad price.

Race 3: 5 ½ Furlongs. MC 75000

#4 Rejected Again (2/1) – He’s most likely, the Conductor doesn’t have a strong opinion in here.

Race 4: 1 5/8 Mile. (OFF Turf) John Call Stakes 100k

#1 Highland Sky (5/2) – His last 7 races have been against G1 or G2 company. He’s facing a very weak field now that its on the dirt and the Conductor will bet his class will translate over.

Race 5: 5 ½ Furlongs. F.S.Mdn 78k

#2 Sophie Rules (9/2) – This filly is working well and the Jose Ortiz/Englehart jockey/trainer combo have been red hot this meet.

Race 6: 1 1/16 Mile. (OFF Turf) Mdn 75k

#2 Justintimeforwine (15/1) – The Conductor still likes this boy to hit the board at a huge number. She was favorited sprinting on dirt at Saratoga two starts back, which tells the Conductor she has more talent than she’s shown.

Race 7: 7 Furlongs. Clm 20000n3L

*Gullet Shot of the Day #2 Autostrade (6/1) – Switching back to dirt and cutting back to a sprint, he made an early move into a hot pace last time. The Conductor loves him here.

Saratoga

Race 8: 5 ½ Furlongs. (OFF Turf) F.Clm 50000b

#8 Morisette (8/1) – Dropping back to the claiming ranks today, she was favored against much tougher last time and had trouble at the break. With a clean break, she’ll have every chance. She won her lone start on a sloppy track, so the Conductor will still ride with her.

Race 9: 6 Furlongs. S.Alw 80000n1x

#3 Our Last Buck (8/1) – Switching back to dirt at Saratoga and dropping out of open company, his race two back at Aqueduct would be tough for this field to beat. 2nd off the layoff, he’ll be ready to roll.

Race 10: 5 ½ Furlongs. (OFF Turf) F.Clm 40000n2L

#6 Zandora (5/1) – 1st off the claim, the Conductor is sticking to his guns again. Dirt or turf, her early pace figures give her an edge.

Del Mar

Race 1: 1 Mile. (Turf) S.Mdn 61k

#10 Bayonce (6/1) – The Conductor liked him in his debut and he took money at the windows. Stretching out on turf for the first time, the Conductor still thinks he has talent and he’ll be a nice price.

Race 2: 1 Mile. F.Clm 25000n3L

#4 Atina (3/1) – She’s steadily progressing and her last performance will be tough for this group to beat.

Race 3: 5 Furlongs. (Turf) F.Mdn 61k

#1 Secret Square (4/1) – Switching to turf for strong connections, she was well bet in her debut on dirt. None of the 1st time starters in here look playable to the Conductor.

Race 4: 1 Mile. Mdn 61k

#2 Still in the Game (5/1) – Switching back to dirt, his race two back will give him every chance.

Race 5: 1 Mile. (Turf) Clm 32000n1y

#4 Mauraud Khan (5/2) – Shipping in from Churchill an making his first start for trainer Leonard Powell, he’s a cut above these California turf horses.

Race 6: 1 Mile. Harry F. Brubaker Stakes

#5 Line Judge (7/2) – Dropping out of Grade 1 company where he didn’t embarrass himself, he gets back to his favorite distance today. He looks to get a perfect trip stalking a hot pace.

Race 7: 5 Furlongs. (Turf) OC 80000n1x

*Never a Doubt Humpday Best Bet #4 Hartel (4/1) – This girl took a step forward last start and ran her best last year sprinting on this turf course. Prat taking the mount is a great sign.

Saratoga

Race 8: 6 Furlongs. Mdn 100k

#1 Railsplitter (7/2) – Cutting back to a sprint and switching back to a sprint, he was favored last start and ran well pressing a hot pace. Only 125k at auction, this spot looks perfect for him.

Pacific Classic Day Late Pick 4 Preview at Del Mar

Pacific Classic Day tomorrow at Del Mar with a nice late card sequence the Conductor will look to exploit. It will be a hell of a day of racing across the country.

Race 8: 1 Mile. F.G3 Torrey Pines Stakes

#1 Into Chocolate (10/1) – This filly has taken a step forward in each of her 3 starts and she ran huge after stumbling last time. She adds blinkers today and Mike Smith stays aboard, which is a great sign.

#4 Hollywood Hills (12/1) – In her 1st start on dirt last time she beat a formidable favorite, #6 Sneaking Out (7/2) on the square.  She also loves to win with 6 victories in 11 starts.

#7 Fighting Mad (5/2) – The Conductor must use this Baffert colt stretching out for the 1st time. He’s posting bullet works.

Race 9: 1 1/8 Mile. (Turf) F.G1 Del Mar Oaks

*Never a Doubt Lock Chad Brown Leg Lock #1 Cambier Parc (5/2) – She looks like a clear standout to the Conductor and he will have the majority of his play going through her. Shipping in for Chad, her only 2 losses in her last 5 starts have come to Concrete Rose, who is the best filly in the country.

Pacific Classic

Backups: 4,5,7,13

Race 10: 1 ¼ Mile. G1 Pacific Classic

#5 Seeking the Soul (3/1) – This isn’t the saltiest Pacific Classic, but the Conductor sees this colt as a cut above the rest. He’s really matured and has run well against the likes of McKinzie and City of Light.

#8 Campaign (6/1) – The Conductor is going to fade #3 Pavel (7/2) and will use this colt as his only backup.  He’s in good form, steadily progressing and has the strongest late pace figures in the field.

Race 11: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) F.OC 40000n1x

The Conductor will be spreading in the finale and he will not be using the M/L Favorite #8 Salsa Bella (7/2)

#2 So Much Happy (8/1) – She set a scorching pace last time and is cutting back to a sprint and switching back to dirt. Her early pace figures make her dangerous, she was able to get the lead vs maidens in her debut as well.

Race 2: 1 Mile. Mdn 61k

#7 C Falls (4/1) – Making his 3rd career start, he took a nice step forward last time. With natural progression the Conductor likes his chances.

Race 3: 6 Furlongs. Alw 50000s

*Gullet Shot of the Day #3 Big Barrel (8/1) – He took a big step forward at Del Mar last start, but the Conductor doesn’t think it was a fluke. He showed ability last year and the Conductor sees it natural progression. He gets a weight break against this group as well.

Race 4: 5 ½ Furlongs. F.S.Mdn 61k

#5 Beyonce (5/1) – Her last two works have been bullets for solid connections. She looks ready to roll. Slay Queen Slay.

Del Mar

Race 5: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.Clm 25000

#1 My Aunt Tillie (6/1) – This mare is returning off a long layoff, but trainer Myke Puype brings them back ready and she’s run well fresh before. If she runs her race she’ll have every chance and Van Dyke taking the mount is a good sign.

Race 6: 5 ½ Furlongs. F.S.CTBAB Stakes 100k

*Never a Doubt Lock of the Card #7 Cholula Lips (2/1) – If she runs her last race vs tougher at Churchill, it will tough for the others beat to jump up and beat her, let alone if she takes a step forward. Her works leading into today suggest she’s ready to run.

Del Mar

Race 7: 1 Mile. (Turf) Alw 50000s

#9 Honos Man (6/1) – Shipping in from Churchill after a nice win last start, the Kentucky invaders have run well on the turf this meet. The Conductor will load up the caboose if we get that price.

#1 Lifeline (10/1) – 2nd off a long layoff and taking a big drop in class, he gets a 7 lb weight break and has a nice inside draw.

*Never a Doubt West Coast Night Cap Best Bet of the Day #7 Foggy Bottom (6/1) – Drawn well to the outside, the Conductor loves her long works over a tiring Golden Gate surface. Trainer Bill McLean is 17% with a +$2.85 debuting maiden claimers this year.

Race 4: 5 Furlongs. (Turf) F.Mdn 61k

#2 Stylishly (5/2) – 1st time in the Simon Callahan barn is always dangerous. This filly has run well against tougher and looks to be ready to roll.

#4 Excavation (4/1) – Dropping in class and getting a 7 lb weight break he looks to get a favorable trip on or up close to a moderate pace.

Race 6: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.S.OC 20000n1x

*Gullet Shot of the Day #7 Hot On the Trail (12/1) – Lightly raced and stretching out to a route, she looks to get a good trip with a hot pace to run at. Desormeaux doesn’t ride for Glatt often at Del Mar, but when he does, he’s usually live. They’ve won 3 of their last 4 starts together.

#9 Lostinthemoment (10/1) – Van Dyke hops a board for an out of town barn and the shippers have been live this meet with the bonuses offered.

#4 Eddie Haskell (6/5) – 3rd off the layoff, he’s 5/6 at Del Mar with one 2nd and 8/11 at the distance. He’s the type of favorite that’s tough to bet against.

Race 2: 6 ½ Furlong. Clm 8000

#3 Twirling Tiger (5/1) – This old gelding gets back to Del Mar where he was last victorious and drops in class.  The weight break helps as well.

Race 3: 5 ½ Furlongs. S.MC 500000

#2 Afternoon Heat (7/2) – She gets a 7 lb weight break as well and ran a good 2nd last time at this level in her debut.  With a natural step forward, the Conductor sees her in the winners circle.

Race 4: 1 Mile. OC 62500b

*Never a Doubt Best Bet of the Day #6 Hot Sean (4/1) – 3rd off the layoff, he made an early move into a hot pace last start and now stretches out to a route. Baffert is 44% with a +$1.04 ROI moving runners from two sprints to a route this year.

Del Mar

Race 5: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.Alw 50000n2L

#5 Shanghai Truffles (3/1) – She’s lightly raced and took a nice step forward last time. The Conductor likes fillies on the incline.

Race 6: 1 ½ Mile. G3 Cougar H.

*Gullet Shot of the Day #1 Premium Forest (20/1) – #7 Campaign (6/5) is the clear one to beat, but the Conductor will key this colt in the exacta and trifecta at a big number. A winner on synthetic, turf and dirt, he is versatile and on the improve. He looks to get a favorable trip up close to a slow pace and has the late pace figures to get the distance.

#3 Miss Stormy (6/1) – She’s coming in off a long layoff, but with solid connections and a sprint distance that doesn’t concern the Conductor. She ran 2nd at this level last fall and with some maturity she has major upside.

#4 Surprise Fashion (10/1) – Stretching out to a dirt route for the first time, the Conductor sees him stepping forward. He will key him in the exacta as the likely highest price on the board.

#5 Starting Bloc (4/1) – The Conductor liked his finish last time having to wait behind horses. He is steadily progressing this year.

Race 3: 1 Mile. Clm 16000

#1 Oh Man (7/2) – Dropping back to the claiming ranks, he has the best races at this distance in the field.

Race 4: 6 Furlongs. Clm 20000

#5 Giddymeister (5/2) – Winner of 3 of his last 4, he is in good form and keeps getting better.

#6 Kiana’a Love (6/1) – She moves into the Peter Miller barn and he takes the blinkers off, which is a positive ROI move for him this year. This filly showed real talent in her debut win.

#6 Golden Goddess (15/1) – The Conductor doesn’t have a strong opinion in this wide-open baby race. He likes this girl’s multiple 4F works.

*Never a Doubt Backstretch Birds Chirping Lock of the Day #3 Smiling Shirlee (3/1) – The word is out at Del Mar on this filly, just look at her work tab and you’ll see why.

Race 8: 1 Mile. (Turf) Runhappy Oceanside Stakes 100k

#2 Roger That (30/1) – The Conductor likes #8 Gregorian Hunt (7/2), and if you like him you must like Roger That at 8 times the price. He was only beaten 1 ¼ lengths by Gregorian Hunt in Ireland and he stretches out to a route today for the 1st time. The Conductor will key him in the trifecta.

Race 9: 7 Furlongs. OC 40000n1x

*Gullet Shot of the Day #6 Jack Van Berg (20/1) – 1st time out for the Michael Puhich barn, he ran a good 3rd against a tough 12-horse field at Churchill last time. In this sprint without much pace, his early/turn pace figures make him very dangerous at a big number. The Conductor will key him in the exacta and trifecta.

#7 Unusually Handsome (8/1) – The Conductor like that Van Dyke takes the mount for the “other” Peter Miller entry in here.

Sunday’s Pocket Stuffers: Keys to the Pick 6 at Del Mar

Three 2nds at Aqueduct and losers at Del Mar.  Hopefully some of you passengers made some money with #6 True Timber running 2nd at 30/1 in the Cigar Mile, but we still need better.  Need winners today, don’t want, need. Let’s Ride.

*Atom Bomb Pick 6 Starter #9 Dedicated to You (20/1) – His last two starts have been dismal, but he’s run the fastest figures in this field and races that would beat this group in the summer.  He adds blinkers back on today, and if they wake him up, the Conductor is going to rip Del Mar’s throat out today.

Race 5: 1 Mile. (Turf) Alw 50000s

#4 Lucky Knickers (15/1) – In his 1st start routing on grass last time he ran a solid 4th, finishing only ½ length behind #8 Foxtail (6/1), who the Conductor also likes.  He’s shown a nice natural progression and will have every chance with another small step forward.

Race 6: 6 Furlongs. F.S.Mdn. 54k

#4 Kate’s Princess (5/1) – The Conductor liked her debut a lot, running a solid 3rd after breaking slowly.  She steps up in class today, but the Conductor sees it as a bode of confidence from trainer Dallas Craig.

Race 7: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.G1 Matriarch Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #7 Daddy is a Legend (20/1) – Ducking thru the rail in the stretch last start, he looked like he was going to win the Valley View Stakes at Keeneland.  He’s steadily progressing with a strong late kick, and he should get a perfect trip today with a hot pace to run at.

Race 8: 6½ Furlongs. OC 62500n2x

*Sunday Night Scary Preventer Lock of the Day #3 Captain Scotty (2/1) – Rounding into form, he’s run the fastest figures in this group and should run his best 2nd off a layoff and cutting back in distance.  He’ll be the Conductor’s key for the day.

Race 9: 1 Mile. (Turf) Mdn 53k

#6 Leader of Men (8/1) – He broke slow and came from 14 lengths out of it in his debut. This showed some ability making up 11 lengths with a slow pace to run at.  He’ll step forward off of that effort and be very dangerous.

Race 1: 1 Mile. Clm 16000

#1 Out of Patience (5/2) – He drops in class today and ran a solid third at this level last start.  He has good early speed and looks primed for a top effort today.

Race 2: 6 Furlongs. F.MC 32000

#8 A Dime For Me (6/1) – #5 Sass Machine (2/1) is the horse to beat, but with every experienced runner in here yet to run a par figure at this level, the Conductor will take a shot with a 1st time starter.  She solid works, a good post, and her dam as produced 4 winners from 4 starters.

Race 3: 5 Furlongs. (OFF Turf)

#1 Pitino (3/1) – Pressing a hot pace going a mile last start, he’ll appreciate the cutback in distance and has run well on dirt.  The Conductor loves that Prat is hopping in the irons.

Race 4: 7 Furlongs. F.Clm 16000

*Gullet Shot of the Day #7 Eskenforadrink (8/1) – It took her a while to break her maiden, but shes steadily progressing and running as fast as these others on paper.  The Conductor loves that she has a win at this distance and trainer Peter Miller can’t be running any hotter.

Del Mar

Race 5: 6 ½ Furlongs. MC 80000

#2 Easy Shot (5/2) – It’s a garbage four horse field after scratches, he’ll win at a short price.

Race 6: 1 Mile. (OFF Turf) OC 80000n1x

#12 Zestful (12/1) – The fastest race of his career was on a sloppy track and he’s rounding into form.  Prat hops aboard and the rest of these runners are completely unproven on wet dirt.

Race 7: 1 Mile. F.OC 50000

*Friday Night Bottle Service Lock of the Day #1 Devine Dharma (7/2) – In her first-time routing at Del Mar last start she won by 15 lengths.  She set an easy pace that day, but judging by her work tab she’s only going to get better.  With others skeptical about her one big number, her price should stay around 3/1.

Del Mar

Race 8: 1 Mile. (OFF Turf) Clm 25000

#1 Broken Up (8/1) – He ran a decent third on a wet dirt track last start and has good early speed in a race devoid of much pace.  He will get a good trip and can surprise at a nice number.

Thursday’s Throat Shots at Del Mar: The Conductor’s Plays

The Conductor had a 5/1 winner in the 4th race at Aqueduct yesterday, but other than that he couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.  Aqueduct has been all or nothing this meet for the Conductor.  Thankfully the train heads back to our bread and butter today with Del Mar back for its closing week.  The only bad news is that it’s raining like its New York and the races will likely be off the turf.  We’ll find a way to succeed under the adverse conditions.  That’s what champions do and why he’s the Conductor. Del Mar

Race 1: 5 Furlongs. (OFF Turf) F.OC 62500b

#5 S Y Sky (3/1) – Her best race was over a good dirt surface, which she should see today.  She’s the fastest on paper, shortens in distance and drops in class.

#7 Nine Point Nine (8/1) – She hasn’t run on dirt in a long time, but she has 3 wins on dirt and ran decent in her lone start on an off track.  If she stay in the field the Conductor will use her in the exacta.

Race 2: 6 Furlongs. S.OC 80000

#2 Luck’s Royal Flush (5/2) – He’s the class of the field and made an early move into a hot pace last time.  He’ll win today for sure.

Race 3: 5 Furlongs. (OFF Turf) Clm 32000

#9 Aristocratic (9/2) – He pressed a hot pace vs tougher last start and he’s run his best on an off track.  He should step forward in his 2nd start off the layoff and he gets blinkers back on.

Race 4: 6 ½ Furlongs. S.MC 50000

#5 Sidepocket Action (5/1) – He has good early speed and drops in for a tag for the first time.  He is working well and has run the highest number in this field in his debut.  We can’t get 5/1, that would be stealing.

Race 5: 1 Mile. (OFF Turf) S.Mdn 53k

#3 Unusual Rider (7/2) – You won’t see a hotter pace set on the turf at this level than his last start.  His running style should fit the dirt perfectly and if he can ration his speed a little better he’ll be tough to beat.

*Gullet Shot of the Day #9 Brix (10/1) – Heavily bet in his debut, he showed brief speed, then faded badly.  Trainer Richard Baltas is 19% this year stretching horses out for the first time this year and if Prat is hopping aboard this horse can run.  He has very strong works as well.

Race 6: 1 Mile. Alw 50000s

*Never a Doubt Lock of the Day #7 Mongolian Groom (5/2) – Dropping in class, steadily improving the Conductor can’t get away from him.  His last race destroys this field.

Race 7: 1 Mile. (OFF Turf) Clm 320002L

#1 Wilshire Dude (6/1) – His best race was on dirt two starts back and makes him very competitive in here.  His lone win was also on a wet track which he’ll get today.  The Conductor sees him stepping forward in Bill Spawr’s barn.

Race 8: 5 ½ Furlongs. MC 32000

#3 Suite Alonso (8/1) – The Conductor loves his work tab at Del Mar and this is a wide open group.  Trainer Doug O’Neil has a +$0.11 ROI this year debuting maiden claimers.

#6 Lea’s Reward (12/1) – There is no chance she’ll be 12/1 with the fastest last race in the field on the Conductor’s numbers.  She finished in front of #4 Princess Leia last time, who came back to win her next race.  If she’s above 4/1 the Conductor will be happy.

Race 2: 1 Mile. (Turf) OC 62500n2x

#3 Sawyer’s Hill (5/1) – Setting a hot pace and holding on for 2nd at this level last time, he should step forward in his 2nd start off the layoff.  He likes this Del Mar turf course and he will get a good trip in a race without much pace on or near the lead.

Race 3: 1 1/8 Mile. G3 Native Diver Stakes

*Never a Doubt Lock of the Day #6 Dabster (2/1) – He’s progressing, the longer the better and his last two races were very impressive.  The Conductor is very against the heavy favorite #4 Battle of Midway going this long.

Race 4: 1 Mile. (Turf) MC 80000

#3 You Must Chill (5/1) – Early move into a hot pace last time is a classic bet back.  At 44/1 last time she should stay a good price.

Race 5: 6.5 Furlongs. F.Clm 18000

#8 Lucky Student (3/1) – She’s run above par and beaten this level multiple times. She’ll be tough to beat.

Race 6: 1 Mile. (Turf) G3 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes

#2 Rijeka (4/1) – He steadied and hit the rail last time pressing a hot pace and still held on for 3rd.  The Conductor will salivate if he gets 4/1 in this small field.

Race 7: 6 Furlongs. F.Mdn 53k

#1 Bizwhacks (5/1) – She should improve returning to dirt and the Conductor loves the cutback.  She’s run figures good enough to beat this group sprinting.

*Gullet Shot of the Day #2 Push Through (6/1) – He took a while to break his maiden, but the Conductor liked his last effort, closing into a slow pace.  This group is very weak and he has every chance.

#5 Spanish Bay (7/2) – He has been facing much tougher, his lone race on dirt beats this group and he gets Lasix for the first time.  He’s also working like rocket.
