Moon Shot Monday: The Conductor’s Plays at Mahoning Valley

Entrance of Hollywood Gaming with a prominent sign featuring the words 'Hollywood' and 'Gaming'.

The Conductor strung 4 winners in a row yesterday, highlighted by a 6/1 winner. It was also St Patrick’s Day, so he doesn’t remember much else.  The Conductor needs to tighten it up a little bit again. Wait a minute, he’s taking the train with the Bat to Vegas for March Madness this week? Yikes, that’s going to get extra leaky. We’re going to have to build our bankroll at Mahoning Valley.  Let’s Ride.

Race 1: 1m70yds. Clm 5000n1y

#5 Colony Classic (15/1) – Its tough to take a 8 year old off a long layoff, but that’s why he’s the Conductor, he’s never scared. If this gelding is even remotely himself he can surprise at a big number.

Race 2: 1 Mile. F.Clm 4000n3y

*Never a Doubt Work Week Starter Lock of the Day 1/1A Entry (8/5) – Both these girls have good early speed in a race devoid of pace.

Mahoning Valley

Race 3: 6 Furlongs. S.Alw 33100n1x

#7 Lunar Heat (2/1) – Drawn well to the outside, she’ll control the race.

Race 4: 1 Mile. Alw 23500n2L

#5 Chairman (5/1) – His speed figures at Mahoning Valley fit against this group.

Race 5: 6 Furlongs. Clm 4000n1y

#4 Dazzling Debuty (15/1) – This gelding contested a hot pace last time and faded late.  Without much other speed signed on here, she’ll get a more favorable trip today.

Race 6: 5 ½ Furlongs. F.S.Clm 7500n3L

#1 Even on the Run (8/1) – She stepped up in a big way last start. Another step forward gives her every chance.

Race 7: 6 Furlongs. F.Clm 5000n2L

*Gullet Shot of the Day #9 Let’er Eat (5/1) – She ran a good closing 3rd vs tougher last start. She’s hungry today.

Mahoning Valley

Race 8: 5 ½ Furlongs. Clm 4000n1y

#8 Drinkinatthebar (8/1) – Speed kills.

Trachea Kick Tuesday: The Conductor’s Plays at Mahoning Valley

American Pharoah, a thoroughbred racehorse, running on a dirt track with a jockey in blue and yellow silks.

Lock winner along with another short price and a few longer prices running 2nd made it an ok start to the week for the Conductor.  Not good, not bad, we’ll keep the train at Mahoning Valley for another day, Let’s Ride.

Race 1: 5 ½ Furlongs. F.MC 7500

#1 Solar System (5/1) – 1st off the claim, she’s plunging in class and has shown good speed vs tougher.  That may be all it takes today.

Race 2: 6 Furlongs. F.Clm 15000

#4 Ryoan (6/1) – Hopefully low % connections keep her price high.  She’s coming into the race in the best form.

Race 3: 6 Furlongs. Mdn 22.1k

#1/1A Entry (5/1) – Both these colts are working like they’re the real deal and this is a weak field.

Race 4: 1m70yds. F.MC 5000

#2 Forevor Thankful (6/1) – Stretching out in her 3rd start off the layoff, she improved last race and has past figures on turf that give her every chance today. She’s untested on dirt.

Race 5: 6 Furlongs. Alw 23500n2L

*Never a Doubt New Driver Lock of the Day #1 Island Vice (2/1) – This gelding just missed at this level last start and that horse came back to win again.  Gat to wire from the rail.

Mahoning Valley

Race 6: 6 Furlongs. F.Clm 7500n2L

#1 Granderalla (3/1) – Dropping in class for solid connections, she’s steadily progressing.

Race 7: 1m70yds. F.Clm 4000n2y

*Gullet Shot of the Day #9 Vaughn (6/1) – She’s stepping up in class at Mahoning Valley, but her last race beats this field.  This jockey/trainer combo is also red hot.

Mahoning Valley

Race 8: 6 Furlongs. MC 10000

#7 Wemadeittofifty (4/1) – No chance the Conductor makes it that long.

Mahoning Valley: Moon Shot Monday

Two horses racing at Mahoning Valley Race Course with a gaming facility in the background.

A nice Sunday for the Conductor at Oaklawn yesterday, multiple 4/1 winners and a few shorter prices as well.  A solid weekend has the caboose filled with cash as we reset and start a new workweek.  First stop will be Mahoning Valley for the Conductor today.  A little Midwest racing with some nice full fields.  Let’s keep the train rolling, Let’s Ride.

Race 1: 1 Mile. Mdn 22.1K

#1 Mr Zydeco (9/2) – He’s been facing the toughest company of the group.

Race 2: 5 ½ Furlongs. F.S.Alw 38000nc

#4 Totally Obsessed (3/1) – 2nd off the layoff, she won nicely last start and is drawn well to the outside of the favorite.  She’ll get a great stalking trip just off the speed.

Race 3: 6 Furlongs. F.Mdn 22.1K

#4 Sassy Seta (6/1) – She’s posting very consistent, quick works for a barn that can win first out.  This field is ripe for a debut runner.

Race 4: 6 Furlongs. F.S.Clm 7500b

#6 Graduation Gift (8/1) – 1st off the claim and 3rd off the layoff, this old mare is very consistent and will be finishing strongly. The Conductor will key her in the exacta.

Race 5: 1m70yds. Alw 23500n1x

*Gullet Shot of the Day #2 Last Drop of Wine (15/1) – No chance we get 15/1 on this gelding at Mahoning Valley, but hopefully a decent price.  His figures fit at this level and he has an early pace advantage over this field.

Mahoning Valley

Race 6: 1 Mile. Clm 40001y

#6 Saint’s Bro (8/1) – 2nd off the layoff, he didn’t run a step last start but needed the race badly.  His races last year give him every chance.

Race 7: 5 ½ Furlongs. Clm 4000n2L

#9 Compulsive (8/1) – Shipping in from Turf Paradise, he set the pace over a tiring surface last start and ran a good 3rd.  He also gets class relief today.

Race 8: 5 ½ Furlongs. Clm 5000n3L

*Never a Doubt Finisher Lock of the Day #4 Tap You’re It (5/2) – Lock it up, rub it down.

Mahoning Valley Moon Shot Monday: The Conductor’s Plays

A group of jockeys in colorful silks riding horses during a race on a dirt track.

The Conductor’s Lock and another 3/1 winner were all Santa Anita gave us yesterday. Parx is cancelled today due to weather, so the Conductor will take the train up to Mahoning Valley for the 1st time this year.  Nothing like being snowed in on the east coast and watching the ponies rumble. Let’s start the work week off right, Let’s Ride.

Race 1: 1m70yds. Clm 10000

#3 Eskendulce (3/1) – This old man has some strong back class and his price will likely float upwards.

Race 2: 6 Furlongs. F.S.Alw 32700n2x

#5 Angel’s Stormin (4/1) – 2nd off the layoff, this girl showed a big improvement last start as a 3 year old.  She’ll get the early lead and will be very dangerous.

Race 3: 1 Mile. Clm 5000n1y

#2 Swarm (5/1) – This old man ran a good 3rd at Mahoning Valley last race, closing into a slow pace.  He’s a proven winner and will be a high price with low % connections.

Race 4: 6 Furlongs. S.Clm 5000n1y

#6 Johnny Utah (4/1) – Dropping in class off the layoff, he’ll be on or near a slow pace.  He’s a proven winner at this distance.

Race 5: 6 Furlongs. Mdn 22.1k

#3 Battle Royale (4/1) – He made an early move into a hot pace last start and was only beaten 2 ½ lengths. Another step forward and he’ll hang on today.

*Never a Doubt Cabin Fever Lock of the Day #9 Celtic Line (7/2) – He stumbled at the start and dueled setting a hot pace last race, finishing a game 2nd.  Drawn well to the outside, his early pace figures give him an edge.

mahoning valley

Race 7: 6 Furlongs. F.Clm 7500n4L

*Gullet Shot of the Day #4 Plenty Quick (6/1) – This filly is cutting back to a sprint after pressing a hot pace last time out.  The Conductor would kill for 6/1.

mahoning valley

Race 8: 6 Furlongs. F.MC 5000

#8 Encouraged (10/1) – She’s dropping in class after closing into a slow pace going a mile vs tougher.  She has a strong late kick and the Conductor will key her in the exacta and tri at a big number.
