2025 Pegasus World Cup Picks & Best Bets — Full Card Gulfstream Park Analysis

A dynamic image of a racehorse galloping with a jockey in colorful attire during a sunset, showcasing speed and energy.

The Conductor has a fire in his belly waiting for Saturday. The turf races especially at Gulfstream look ripe for the taking. Let’s have ourselves a weekend to remember passengers. Skip.

Race 7: 1½ Mile. (Turf) F.G3 La Prevoyante Stakes

#10 Forever After All (5/1) – This mare has been best in her last three races and poor trips have cost her. She unfortunately draws an outside post here, but the Conductor trusts Gaffalione to give her a fair chance. She’ll be the 3rd or 4th betting choice in this race and the Conductor thinks she’s the most likely winner. He must play her despite the poor draw.

Race 8: 1 Mile. G3 Fred W. Hooper Stakes

#5 Tumbarumba (2/1) – The Conductor thinks this hard knocking gelding gets the job done today. He takes the blinkers off and shortens 1/16 of a mile from his last race. Without much other speed in here, Tumbarumba will be very tough to pass in the stretch.

Race 9: 1½ Mile. (Turf) G3 William L. McKnight Stakes

#12 Cash Equity (6/1) – Another outside post in a turf route, what could go wrong? This gelding had a trip from hell last time and has run better than it looks on paper in his last few starts. He has class edge over this group and Irad hops aboard for the first time. If Irad can give him a fair trip, the Conductor thinks he will get his picture taken.

Race 10: 1 1/16 G2 Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf

#7 Minoushka (10/1) – The Conductor likes a few longshots in this race. Listen to the podcast below to find out the rest. Minoushka impressed the Conductor with her dominant performance at Keeneland in her US debut. She ran well stepping up in class last time too, closing well behind a slow pace. The Brendan Walsh runners have been firing on the Gulfstream turf all winter, and the Conductor thinks the trend continues Saturday.

Race 11: 7 Furlongs. F.G2 Inside Information Stakes

#9 Emery (3/1) – This filly hasn’t been defeated on a fast dirt track and the Conductor can’t play against her here. She looks to get an ideal outside stalking trip and is a cut above this group in his opinion.

Race 12: 1 1/8 Mile. (Turf) G1 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #3 Mi Hermano Ramon (8/1) – This gelding is in career best form and draws well to the inside. He had a terrible turf trip last time and sustained his run for 2nd after making a 4-wide move on the turn. With a fair trip today he can upset the favorites here in the turf feature.

Race 13: 1 1/8 Mile. G1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes

#11 Locked (5/2) – The Conductor would be surprised if #4 White Abario (3/1) or Locked don’t win this years Pegasus. The Conductor leans Locked, who looks to gets the patented Johnny V outside stalking trip. He’s not convinced White Abario is as good as he once was despite being back in the Saffie Joseph barn. The one price that intrigues the Conductor underneath the favorites in this race is #6 Stronghold (10/1). Stronghold showed talent on the Derby trail last year and ran big sprinting in his return in the Malibu last time. That race looks to set him up perfectly to stretch out to his best distance today. He can inject value into this race.

Pegasus World Cup Gulfstream Park 2024

Yes, the Conductor has been slacking posting his picks. There are just so few playable races this time of year. However, the Pegasus World Cup card this Saturday at Gulfstream is the kick in the ass he needs. Full fields and stakes racing all day, you’ll need to bring an extra shovel. We need to unearth every last spec of coal we can. Let’s Ride.

Race 3: 7½ Furlongs. (Turf) F.OC 62500b

#1 Sun Bee (12/1) – The rail draw is crucial at Gulfstream with the short run up into the first turn for this distance. Going longer vs tougher last time, this filly ran a huge late pace figure closing into slow fractions. She’ll be well back early again today, but she should get a beautiful setup. There is plenty of early speed in this race and she’ll save all the ground along the rail. Sun Bee will be finishing best late and has every chance to upset this field at a big number.

Race 5: 1 Mile. (Turf) OC 62500b

#4 Whisper Not (8/1) – If race 3 is going to have a fast early pace, this race will have a scorching one. You certainly want to fade the favorites that will be up close fighting for the lead early. This gelding is a square price and has the best post of any of the closers. He’s won at big prices off layoffs before and he’s improved since moving into the Maker barn. Whisper Not will be heard from down the stretch.

Race 11: 1 Mile. G3 Fred W. Hooper Stakes

#11 Tamarumba (8/1) – This gelding has become a new animal in his last three starts, improving with each one. Last time out at Fairgrounds he pressed a hot pace going 1 1/8 mile and still hung on for 2nd. He looks perfectly setup for the turn back in distance he gets today and he’s working well for a red hot barn. Trainer Brian Lynch is winning at a 35% clip at this Gulfstream meet and 4/5 with Saez in the irons. Tamarumba should get a nice outside stalking trip up close to a moderate pace and will still have gas in the tank late.

Race 12: 1 1/8 Mile. (Turf) Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #5 Webslinger (15/1) – #9 Warm Heart (9/5) clearly lays over this field from a class standpoint and is the most likely winner of this race. However, she’ll be even money and you’ll have to pair her up with a price to extract any value here. To no surprise to the loyal passengers who know him well, the Conductor likes Webslinger here. He is a game horse and Castellano cost him two Grade 1 wins last year (and the Conductor loads of coal). Webslinger has continued to run well with poor trips and has run well over this Gulfstream turf course. With a new rider, good post and juicy morning line, he’ll get the Conductor’s money.

Pegasus World Cup Gulfstream Park

Race 13: 1 1/8 G1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes

#12 Skippylongstocking (8/1)National Treasure (9/5) clearly ran the best last race in this field in the BC Mile. He set lightning fractions and was just nailed by Cody’s Wish. However, he is much better going shorter and is 0/2 without hitting the board at today’s distance. Skippy is also exiting that race and ran well chasing the pace and never quit. Unlike National Treasure, going a mile isn’t Skippy’s game. He’s better going longer and won’t have to expend as much energy early. He’ll have the stamina to skip down the lane and take home the feature.

Pegasus World Cup Saturday Picks — January 28, 2023 | Pegasus Day at Gulfstream Park

Three horses racing at Gulfstream Park with jockeys in colorful silks and a large statue in the background.

The Ductor has been slacking, working on the train instead of giving out his ponies to the passengers. He will not apologize as he hasn’t been playing much. Winter racing is poo and there hasn’t been many betting opportunities. Finally, a big stakes day at Gulfstream Park puts a little fire in his belly. He’s combed thru the Saturday card and has found some juicy prices he’ll ride to glory. Pegasus World Cup time, Let’s Ride

Gulfstream Park Race 1: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.OC 25000n1x

#5 On Alert (6/1) – This filly hasn’t gotten a hot pace to run at and has run massive late pace figures. She’s run winning races in all three of her starts with Lasix and she gets back on Lasix today. Shug has them ready off the bench and the Ductor thinks she wins the opener at a fair price.

Race 5: 1 Mile. (Turf) OC 25000n1x

#3 Winston Blue (20/1) – The first bomb that stuck out on the Pegasus World Cup card comes in the fifth. There aren’t any monsters in this race and its ripe for an upset. This new gelding has run well on synthetic and ships in from Woodbine to try the turf for the first time. The Ductor liked his last race where he was wide pressing a hot pace and still finished well. He has major upside.

Race 6: 1½ Mile. (Turf) F.G3 La Prevoyante Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #2 Personal Best (7/2) – This filly will have to take down a rightful favorite #5 Adventuring (7/5), but the Ductor thinks she’s more than capable. Her two marathon races on the turf have been dominant. The Ductor does not care that she failed as the favorite last time on synthetic. She gets back to her personal best today. Skip.

Pegasus World Cup

Race 9: 1½ Mile. (Turf) G3 William L. McKnight Stakes

#11 Red Knight (9/2) – The Ductor liked this gelding in the Breeders’ Cup and new he was toast after the first turn. He’s been really good since entering the Maker barn and Irad taking the mount off is a positive sign. The Ductor thinks this old boy’s tank is still full and the post should be no problem with his closing running style. He’ll be a higher price than 9/2.

#3 Pao Alto (8/1) – He’s gotten brutal trips in his starts in the states and now gets a world class rider in Dettori aboard. The Ductor likes his muddied up form and he’ll show what he’s made of today with a good ride.

Race 12: 1 1/2 Mile. (Turf) G1 Pegasus World Cup Turf

#6 Lady Speightspeare (6/1) – Although this mare got a great ground saving trip in the Breeders’ Cup, she was still up close to a scorching pace and finished well. She beat many horses in that race that would be favorites here. Attfield has dominated these big turf stakes in the US the last few years and this mare will add to his tally.

#4 Hurricane Dream (15/1) – This is a weak G1 field in the Ductor’s opinion and this shipper from France a run well vs classier competition. Her marathon distance form across the pond makes her dangerous.

Race 13: 1 1/8 Mile. G1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes

#4 White Abarrio (10/1) – This colt returns to Gulfstream where he won his prep races last year on the Derby trail. He got a solid race going a mile vs quality competition under his belt last time and has been working well since. Returning to his favorite track and distance today, this new 4-year-old will run a career best effort.

#12 O’Connor (10/1) – There was heavy steam on this Chilean Star last time where he failed as the favorite. After that race, reports detailed that he lost a shoe while running, so that effort can be excused. He’s another runner working well for Saffie Joseph entering today. You can sneak one past the public, but you can’t sneak him past the Ductor. Skip.

Gulfstream Park: 2021 Pegasus World Cup Day Pick 6 Breakdown

A racehorse with a jockey in red and white attire competing at a horse racing event.

After day 1 at Oaklawn it looks like every Cox runner is going to fire. Shocking. We’ll worry about Oaklawn again on Sunday. We have big pools and nice fields for the Pegasus World Cup down in Florida. Let’s bring Gulfstream to its knees. Skip.

Race 7: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.G3 Marshua’s River Stakes

#1 Bella Laura (12/1) – This mare is in good form and continues to improve in the Avila barn. She looks to get a nice trip up close to a moderate pace, and the layoff is not a concern for the Conductor. Avila is 20% with a $4.10 ROI with his last 40 runners off the bench.

Other Contenders: #3 Zoelle (5/1), #6 Evil Lyn (9/2), #8 Tuned (8/1)

Race 8: 1½ Mile. (Turf) F.G3 La Prevoyante Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #2 Sister Hanan (12/1) – This mare is ultra-consistent despite having trouble staying on the racetrack. 2nd off the layoff after an easy win, she looks to get a nice ground saving trip and the distance should be no problem.

Other Contenders: #1 Always Shopping (3/1), #5 Lovely Lucky (10/1), #9 Cap de Creus (12/1)

Race 9: 7 Furlongs. F.G2 2 Inside Information Stakes

#5 Piedi Bianchi (12/1) – This race looks to be the most difficult of the sequence, so if you can narrow it down you’ll have a big advantage. This mare is the biggest price on the morning line and has a major chance. Cutting back to 7 furlongs after dueling on a hot pace routing on turf, she’ll be very fit.

Other Contenders: All

Race 10: 1½ Mile. (Turf) G3 W. L. McKnight Stakes

*#1 Doswell (7/2) – The Conductor is going to lean heavily on this gelding, who ran huge last time after being stuck behind horses at the top of the stretch. That was a tougher field than this one and the added distance should be no problem as he galloped out past the winner last time. He’s been very impressive this year.

Other Contenders: #3 Mirinaque (30/1), #5 Sadler’s Joy (3/1), #7 Tide of the Sea (10/1)

Race 11: 1 3/16 Mile. (Turf) G1 Pegasus World Cup Turf

#5 Colonel Liam (7/2) – This is not a very strong Grade 1 field and this colt has the most upside. Steadily progressing for Pletcher he’s run some monster late pace figures in his last few starts and looks ready for the challenge.

Other Contenders: #8 Anothertwistafate (5/1), #11 Say the Word (6/1), #12 Social Paranoia (8/1)

Race 12: 1 1/8 Mile. G1 Pegasus World Cup

#4 Knicks Go (5/2) – The Conductor hates chalk, but this horse has turned into a full-blown freak in the Cox barn (shocking) and nobody in here is quick enough to put pressure on him early. With enough time off and solid works since the Breeders’ Cup the Conductor sees him running the off their feet.

Prices to Include Underneath: #2 Coastal Defense (15/1), #3 Independence Hall (20/1)

He’s Baaaaaaaaccccckkkkkkkk: Pegasus World Cup Day Plays

Horses and jockeys racing at the Pegasus World Cup Invitational event with a logo overlay.

He’s Baaaaaaaaaccccccccckkkkkkkkkkk. The Conductor apologizes for his recent absence, but not really. The train went off the rails and needed some maintenance, that’s just part of ductor life. Nothing a few weeks back at the station can’t fix. You passengers didn’t think he’d miss the Pegasus World Cup did you? Silly passengers, after all this time you still can’t figure out the Conductor. Great card today at Gulfstream, big fields and the Conductor is salivating. Time to take a nice slow ride THROTTLE IT! Let’s Ride.

Race 7: 1 Mile. G3 Fred W. Hooper Stakes

This is a very intriguing race to start the Pick 6 sequence. We’ll have to see if the dirt is a speed highway, but this looks like a meltdown race with a blistering pace on paper. The Conductor will turn to the closers.

#5 Phat Man (10/1) – Exiting a good 2nd last start, splitting War Story and Bode Express (who we’ll talk about later), he looks to get a great trip with Irad aboard. The Conductor will key him in the exacta as well.

#7 Tale of Silence (10/1) – He’s had time off after running a dud last start. His race two back closing into a slow pace and finishing 1 ¾ lengths behind Maximum Security makes him a must use.

Other contenders #8 Free Enterprise (4/1), #10 Gray Magician (6/1), and the Conductor can see #9 Olympic Village (20/1) hitting the board underneath.

Race 8: 1½ Mile. (Turf) F.G3 La Prevoyante Stakes

#6 Lady Paname (3/1) – She’s clearly the one to beat from the Conductor’s perspective and will single her on most tickets. The long layoff doesn’t concern him with Chad.

#3 Kelsey’s Cross (8/1) – This filly is making her first start as a four-year-old and has sneaky back class. She’s run behind Cambier Parc and Concrete Rose and this field is much weaker than what she’s used to.

#4 Mean Mary (8/1) – She’s the controlling speed and the Conductor likes her steady progression.

Race 9: 7 Furlongs. F.G2 Inside Information Stakes

Another race with what looks like a hot pace, the Conductor sees only 3.

#7 Spiced Perfection (8/5) – The heavy favorite, she’d clearly the class of the field and can dictate her own trip.

#6 Nonna Madeline (8/1) – She didn’t live up to the hype last year but took care of business in her comeback race. The Conductor thinks she has the potential to take a big step forward.

#11 Pink Sands (8/1) – This mare is going to get a good setup like she did in her last victory and loves Gulfstream.

Race 10: 1½ Mile. (Turf) G3 W. L. McKnight Stakes

Nothing creative, the logical contenders, no strong opinion: #1 Red Night (3/1), #7 Cross Border (9/2), #8 Pumpkin Rumble (8/1), #12 American Tattoo (7/2)

Race 11: 1 3/16 Mile. (Turf) G1 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Stakes

The Conductor is going to toss #12 Magic Wand (7/2) from that post. She’s classy and can win, but loves to run 2nd and will be hammered at the windows. There is a trainer named Chad Brown you may have heard of who will win this race.

#3 Without Parole (4/1) – He ran well behind Uni on Breeders Cup Day last time and the Conductor thinks he’s a cut above this field. Most of his money will go through him.

#6 Instilled Regard (10/1) – The Conductor has always been a fan of this horse and is improving on the turf.

#11 Sacred Life (12/1) – He’s a hard knocker and the Conductor will use him defensively.

Race 12: 1 1/8 Mile. G1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes

This race obviously completely changed with the scratch of Omaha Beach, but the Conductor thinks its now a much better betting race.

*Gullet Shot of the Day #4 Seeking the Soul (30/1) – He went off form last fall but has had a long time off and is training well. His 2nd behind Seeking the Soul in last years Pegasus behind City of life would win this year’s running and he has the most back class. The Conductor has a feeling he’s going to run a big one and will key him in the exacta and trifecta.

#12 Bode Express (30/1) – He won’t be that price, but he’ll be on the lone lead and has the talent to take them all the way around if he can tick off favorable fractions. He was fractious last start and went too fast early, but his race two back and run behind Maximum Security as a 3-year-old show he has the talent.

#6 Higher Power (6/1) – He ran a very good 3rd in the BC Classic and there aren’t any Vino Rosso’s or Mckinzie’s in this field.

#10 Mucho Gusto (9/2) – The Conductor can’t toss him with his form against Maximum Security.
