Race 1: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) F.S.Mdn 55k

#8 On Mars (6/1) – Favored last time, she got caught in a pace duel before fading. She can take a step forward trying the grass today and Mike Smith hops aboard.

Race 3: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.S.Mdn 55k

#6 Too Much Smoke (12/1) – She was well bet on debut and hasn’t shown much in two starts. She gets a major rider upgrade today and Peter Miller is 30% this year with runners making their 2nd career grass start. She could take a major step forward.

Race 6: 6 Furlongs. S.OC 20000n1x

#5 Tigre Di Slugo (3/1) – 2nd off the layoff and getting off the rail today, the Conductor thinks he’ll run a big one. His debut win was very impressive.

#8 Big Barrel (20/1) – Cutting back to a sprint after pressing a hot pace going a mile last start, the Conductor sees him spicing up the exotics underneath.

Race 7: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) F.G3 Sweet Life Stakes

#4 Shines Her Light (4/1) – 2nd off the layoff, she looks to get a perfect trip again like she did last time in victory.

The Conductor’s Friday Plays at Santa Anita Park

Santa Anita is finally back in action and the Conductor has to pay for his golf trip somehow. Let’s Ride.

Race 1: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) S.Mdn 55k

#6 Squalotoro (8/1) – The Conductor likes this boy’s work tab and Puype can hit with first time starters. He’s 12% with a +$0.06 ROI this year with debut runners. The Conductor hates the M/L favorites in here.

Race 3: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) F.S.OC 50000n1x

#3 Florentine Diamond (9/2) – Whenever a 1st timer has a blowout debut win for very low % connections, the Conductor takes note. This filly may have some real talent.

Race 5: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) BaffleB75K

#3 Bulletproof One (2/1) – This filly can scoot early and she looks primed for a monster effort cutting back to a more preferable distance 2nd off the bench.

Race 7: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.MC 75000

*Gullet Shot of the Day #3 Wine At Sunset (10/1) – Why is Mike Smith hopping aboard a 75k claimer who didn’t show much in their debut, for a barn he rarely rides for? The Conductor smells something fishy.

The Conductor’s Saturday Plays at Santa Anita Park

The Conductor is very happy he’s back. Very Very happy. Let’s Ride

Race 1: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) F.OC 40000n1x

#8 Queen of the Track (6/1) – She has an early pace edge over this field. 2nd off the layoff she’ll have more left in the tank late.

Race 3: 6 Furlongs. F.OC 80000n1x

#2 Savy Gal (3/1) – Cutting back to a sprint after pressing a hot pace routing, the Conductor loves her.

Race 6: 1 1/16 Mile. G3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes

#1 Encoder (8/1) – Trying dirt for the first time, this colt looks to get a perfect trip saving ground from the rail with a hot pace in front to close into.

Race 8: 1 1/8 Mile. G2 San Pasqual Stakes

#1 Roadster (7/2), #4 King Abner (4/1) – The Conductor only needs these two in a solid betting race. They have a class edge over this group.

Race 9: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.OC 40000n1x

*Gullet Shot of the Day #2 Prima Valentina (15/1) – 2nd off the layoff, she had a troubled trip last time and this is a wide open affair. The Conductor will key her in the exact and trifecta.

The Conductor’s Friday Plays at Santa Anita Park

Swing in a miss yesterday. The Conductor likes today’s late pick 5 much better today, however. Here are his keys. Let’s Ride

Race 3: 1 1/16 Mile. F.OC 40000n1x

#1 Miss Stormy D (5/2) – Stretching out to a route for the first time, she ran better than it looks last time fighting for the lead in between horses and turning away the other speed.

#4 Meso (6/1) – The longest price in a short field, she looks to get a perfect setup with a hot pace to close into.

Race 7: 1 1/16 Mile. MC 30000

*Gullet Shot of the Day #3 Handsome Michael (6/1) – He ran very well last time, pressing a hot pace wide all the way around the turn. He finished behind an even money favorite and runners with much more favorable trips. The Conductor will try to get alive only to him in the last.

The Conductor’s Thursday Play at Santa Anita Park

Woof, Santa Anita weekday cards have been brutal lately. Small fields, so the Conductor must pick his spots like the disciplined man that he is. He loves one price today. Let’s Ride

Race 4: 1 Mile. (Turf) Mdn 55k

*Gullet Shot of the Day #6 Cardiff Cay (8/1) – 2nd off the layoff, he’s exiting a strange race with a very slow pace. The fields he faced this fall in New York were miles tougher than this group and the Conductor sees him taking a big step forward with more fitness today. The Chatios barn has been running well and Franco won aboard a 9/1 runner the only other time he and Chatios have teamed up this meet.

Esophagus Slice Saturday: The Conductor’s Plays at Santa Anita

We couldn’t finish the double yesterday and another poor card at Santa Anita today with small fields. The Conductor doesn’t have many strong opinions, so he’ll pick his spots today. Let’s Ride.

Race 5: 1 Mile. G3 Sham Stakes

#1 Authentic (8/5) – This colt was all the buzz at Del Mar this summer and won nicely in his debut. He’s working well leading into today.

Race 9: 6½ Furlongs. OC 40000n1x

*Gullet Shot of the Day #4 Truck Salesman (4/1) – He’s run big in his last two dirt sprints and has an early pace edge over this field. He’ll get to the front and will be very tough to pass.

Price to Include: #6 Sigalert (8/1)

Force Feed Friday: The Conductor’s Plays at Santa Anita

This is a very weak card today at Santa Anita, so the Conductor will only focus on the late double. An ice cold double leading into Friday night is just what the doctor ordered. Never use two when one will do. Let’s Ride.

Race 8: 6 ½ Furlongs. F.MC 20000

#5 Buyback (7/2) – 2nd off the layoff today, her race pressing a hot pace vs tougher two back makes her the one to beat in the Conductor’s opinion. She should stay above 3/1.

Race 9: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.Alw 50000s

#2 Quarelle (3/1) – 1st off the claim for a red-hot Peter Miller, she’s got the strongest late pace figures in the field.

Wind Pipe Whack Wednesday: The Conductor’s New Years Day Plays at Santa Anita

With the chaos at Santa Anita in 2019, the Conductor took his train elsewhere and his bottom line suffered. Barring more catastrophes at the track this year, the Conductor will turn his focus back to the Great Race Place and play there almost exclusively. The California circuit is where the Conductor is at his best and he needs to tighten his scope. Santa Anita will rue the day they let the Conductor walk back in through their gates. In 2020, there will be blood, Let’s Ride.

Race 3: 1 Mile. OC 62500n2x

#1 California Street (3/1) – Stretching out to a route for the 1st time 2nd off the layoff, this gelding has run against some classy runners in his last few. His bullet works entering today show the Conductor he’s ready to fire.

Race 5: 6 Furlongs. F.Clm 25000

#7 Nomizar (4/1) – Drawn well to the outside, this filly can dictate her own trip and is working like a rocket ship.

Race 6: 1 1/8 Mile. (Turf) F.OC 40000n1x

*Gullet Shot of the Day #6 Kittyhawk Lass (8/1) – There looks to be a scorching pace up front in this one, so the Conductor is looking for a closer. This filly is steadily progressing and has a win at the distant. She’ll be finishing late.

bitch slap slapping GIF

#8 Mulhima (20/1) – This filly is trying turf for the first time and the Conductor is intrigued that Prat takes the mount for a low % barn he rarely rides for. In his last two rides for trainer Anna Meah, he’s hit the board.

Race 8: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) G2 Joe Hernandez Stakes

#8 Grinning Tiger (15/1) – He can fly early and his sprint efforts on grass have been his best. His race two back over this turf course came back very fast.

Race 9: 1 Mile. Mdn 55k

#4 Snap Chap (5/1) – This 1.2-million-dollar colt will improve on the stretch out. The blinkers come off today and Mike Smith stays aboard.

#3 Don V. (15/1) – A price to include at least underneath. This colt is well bred to route and trainer David Hofmans can pop with 1st timers. He was 17% with a +$0.65 ROI last year with debut runners.

Esophagus Slice Saturday: The Conductor’s Plays at Santa Anita

The Conductor loses every college football he get’s his paws on. Its a can’t lose today at the great race place, Let’s Ride

Race 5: 1 1/16 Mile. G2 San Antonio Stakes

*Never a Doubt Must Win Lock #2 Gift Box (9/5) – He’s had some time off and returns to his favorite track. He can’t lose here and he won’t.

Race 7: 7 Furlongs. F.G1 La Brea Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #8 Motion Emotion (15/1) – Cutting back to a sprint after pressing a hot pace routing last time, the Conductor thinks she can hit the board and has an outside shot at a major upset. She looks to get a nice stalking trip sitting behind the speed and will be running late.

Race 9: 7 Furlongs. G1 Malibu Stakes

#5 Omaha Beach (4/5) – With a nice outside draw, he’ll be in the winner’s circle.

The Conductor’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint Preview

Race 8: 6 Furlongs. G1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint

*#1 Catalina Cruiser (4/1) – He’s being forgotten about for a horse that has only lost one career start. He also looks to get a good trip sitting behind a hot pace. He’ll be on the Conductor’s tickets and thinks his price will float up a bit higher.

Wine Mixer GIF

#2 Hog Creek Hustle (20/1) – This is a little too short and too tough for him to be a legit contender. He could come running for 3rd at best.

#3 Firenze Fire (12/1) – This colt has run some very fast races, but they’ve all come at Belmont Park. The price will be the deciding factor for the Conductor, but he’s leaning against him.

#4 Mitole (9/5) – The Conductor can’t knock him, but he can’t separate him from the other logical contenders.  He won’t be pressing him like others may.

#5 Engage (15/1) – He’s not in this class, 3rd at best.

*#6 Shancelot (4/1) – This colt has shown brilliance in his young career. The Conductor cannot ignore his potential and must use him. He’ll be the Conductor’s win bet if he goes off above 3/1. Navarro will make sure he has his vitamins.

#7 Whitmore (15/1) – This gelding’s best days are behind him, he’s a contender for 3rd.

#8 Landeskog (12/1) – Scratched

#9 Imperial Hint (4/1) – He is a serious sprinter and is drawn well to the outside. He’s been nails in his last two starts and he’ll be on all the Conductor’s tickets.

#10 Matera Sky (30/1) – He should have stayed in Japan.
