Saratoga Whitney Stakes Day Picks — Saturday, August 2, 2025 | Full Card Analysis

A group of thoroughbred horses racing on a grassy track with spectators in the background.

By far the best card of the Saratoga meet thus far. Add in beautiful weather and fast turf and we have ourselves one hell of a Saturday. Let’s Ride.

Race 7: Furlongs. OC 75000n2x

#1 Hold My Bourbon (10/1) – This is the first of two Saffie Joseph runners the Conductor likes today. In his first start for the barn last time, Hold My Bourbon chased a wicked pace going two turns. He did well to hang on to 2nd and now looks primed for the cutback in distance. The rail is usually where you want to be on a fast dirt track at Saratoga, and he should get a nice pocket trip. Let’s get the Conductor’s bourbon started nice and early.

Race 11: 1 1/8 Mile. G1 Whitney Stakes

#7 White Abarrio (4/1) – This is a great race with three formidable horses. The Conductor likes White Abarrio at anything over 3/1. If you throw out the Met on a sloppy track, Saffie has him back to his old self. His Pacific Classic this year was dominant and his best can certainly beat the favorites. Fierceness (9/5) will be up close to a hot pace in this one, and White Abarrio should be able to sit a perfect trip and pounce. With a well timed ride by Irad, he’ll get the jump on #5 Sierra Leone (2/1) and cash for the passengers.

Race 12: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) F.Alw 110000n1x

#4 Upon a Star (8/1) – This filly ran solid numbers on dirt last year and returned off the bench to win nicely in the slop. Now 2nd off the layoff, she finally switches to turf, the surface she’s bred for. She has major upside with the surface switch and making her 2nd start as a 4-year-old. Upon a star is going to fire a career best effort.

#5 She’s Got Will (10/1) – A wild card horse entering off a long layoff, this filly has talent. She won her debut routing over this Saratoga turf course and ran well last year in all three starts. She tries sprinting today for the first time and the Conductor thinks this is a mediocre bunch. She’s Got Will can pull an upset.

Saratoga Whitney Stakes Day Picks — Saturday, August 3, 2024 | Full Card Analysis

Black and white portrait of an elderly train conductor wearing a cap and uniform, showcasing a serious expression against a train backdrop.

The Conductor’s laptop broke, but he is preserving. Luckily all his capping is already done and he’s ready to attack this Whitney Stakes day card at Saratoga. Only the stakes races remain on the lawn after some rain last night, but that’s enough for the Conductor. Aim small, miss small, but really never miss at all. Skip.

Race 7: 1 3/16 Mile. (Turf) G1 Saratoga Derby Invitational

#5 Deterministic (6/1) – The Conductor likes both of the Clement horses in here. Deterministic ran very well last time in a tough spot for his first start on turf. He closed for 2nd behind a slow pace and should build off that effort. He’s shown he’s a quality horse on dirt and this may be the surface he prefers.

#6 Carson’s Run (8/1) – This colt is the only horse other than the favorite that has a Grade 1 win under his belt. He’s rounding back into his top form and his best efforts last year certainly make him a contender vs this field.

Race 9: 1 1/16 Mile (Inner Turf) Lure Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #1 Kubrick (8/1) – The Conductor likes this colt quite a bit in this race. A genuine stakes horse in France, he shipped to America and romped at Tampa in the spring. He has disappointed since, but the Conductor can forgive his last two efforts. He pressed a quick pace over a yielding turf course at Keeneland and was too far back in a merry go round race last time. Now he looks to get an ideal ground saving trip with a fair pace to run at. This colt will show his true ability today.

#3 National Treasure (9/5) – The Conductor loved this colt in the Met Mile last time and he didn’t disappoint. He looks to be too tough for this group again at a short price, but the Conductor has two bombs up his sleeve to pair him with. #1 Post Time (20/1) ran 2nd behind National Treasure last time and has a good shot to do so again today. He always runs his race and will get a great trip along the Saratoga golden rail. #4 Warrior Johnny (20/1) loves Saratoga and will be finishing late. Although he beat a much weaker group last time, his win was incredible. He was nearly wiped out after the start and somehow rallied to win comfortably. The Whitney is a 3 / 1,4 exacta for the Conductor.

Whitney Stakes Saturday Picks — August 5, 2023 | Whitney Day at Saratoga

0/2 Thursday and another sloppy off the turf Friday has the Conductor turning his attention to the weekend. Saratoga is kicking his teeth in and the weather is ruining the meet. However, this Saturday Whitney Stakes card has given Mr. Ductor a shining light in a sea of darkness. Toga’s ready to get whacked. Skip.

Race 8: 7 Furlongs. F.G1 Test Stakes

#8 Maple Leak Mel (2/1) – This is a salty stakes race with tons of other early speed. However, the Conductor thinks this filly is the lone freak in the field. Her cruising speed is outrageous and she ran a strong late pace figure last time too. If she is indeed the 2nd choice, the Conductor will be funneling all his coal through the windows.

Race 9: 1 Mile. (Turf) G1 Saratoga Derby Invitational Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #6 Webslinger (4/1) – This colt was probably best in the Belmont Derby last time. He made a massive 5-wide move on the turn from the back of the pack and made a giant stretch run against the flow. He has the same rider again today, but he must get a better trip. With all the vacationing passengers attending Saratoga on Saturday who don’t watch the tape, he’ll likely be an overlay. The Conductor’s coal count will quadruple on the back of this colt.

Race 10: 1 1/8 Mile. G1 Whitney Stakes

#5 White Abarrio (6/1)#6 Cody’s Wish (1/2) is obviously the most likely winner. The Conductor hopes he puts on a show stretching out in distance. However, you need to pair him up with someone to create any sort of value in here. White Arbarrio ran a sneaky big race behind Cody’s Wish last time. He stumbled at the start, still showed early speed, then lost ground on the turn and re-rallied down the stretch. He was clearly 2nd best that day and he’s proven at this distance unlike Cody’s Wish. Now 2nd off the layoff and Irad taking the mount, the Conductor sees him running a monster effort.

Race 12: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) Alw 149500n1x

#2 Danzigwiththestars (10/1) – Last time going one turn at Belmont, he was floated 4-wide early on the turn and ran much better than the form shows. He draws well today and stretches out to two turns, where he’s done his best running. All three of his career wins have come over this Saratoga turf course and the price is right for him to add another today. Let’s end the card in style. Skip.

S

Happy Whitney Stakes Day passengers. Perfect timing right after the Ductor slaughtered yesterdays card. What a great life us passengers get to live. We just get rich while the Ductor does all the work. More coal! More!

Saratoga Race 2: #4 She Caught My Eye (4/1), #6 Afilada (5/2)

Race 4: #2 Khali Magic (9/5), #6 Impazible Donna (6/1)

Saratoga Race 5: #8 Somelikeithotbrown (5/2)

Race 6: #6 Rocket Can (6/1)

Saratoga Race 7: #6 War Like Goddess (1/2), #3 Petricor (6/1)

Race 8: #5 Fluid Situation (8/1), #7 Money Supply (9/2)

Race 9: #1 Matareya (2/5), #4 Wish You Well (12/1)

*Whitney Stakes Race 10: *Gullet Shot of the Day #2 Hot Rod Charlie (9/2) – This is a very salty rendition of the Whitney despite the short field. Life is Good and Olympiad will take the majority of the money and Hot Rod Charlie will likely be an overlay after being defeated last time. The Ductor doesn’t hold that effort against him, he ran very well returning from Dubai and going a shorter distance against a gutsy sprinter. Stretching out to his best distance today, the Ductor is against Life is Good going this far at such a short price and Olympiad hasn’t faced a runner as classy as Hot Rod. The Ductor trusts Prat to work out a good trip and he is the clear bet for him the morning line is relatively accurate.

Whitney Stakes Day is the best card of the meet so far. Prepare and conquer. Let’s Ride

Race 3: Race 3: 6 Furlongs. Alw 103000n1x

#1 Life Changer (6/1) – This colt showed talent winning on debut last summer and pressed a wicked pace off a year layoff last time out. Shortening in distance today, he has the early pace figures to clear this field from the rail and can take a big step forward. He won’t change your life, but he can make your day.

Race 6: Race 6: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) LureL120K

#9 South Bend (12/1) – Exiting tougher on dirt, this colt has gotten some tough trips in his last few raes. He can run just fine on turf and Rosario fits his running style nicely. The Ductor thinks he can surprise this group.

Race 7: 1½ Mile. (Inner Turf) F.G2 Glens Falls Stakes

#3 War Like Goddess (8/5) – This filly has a thunderous late kick and she will get pace to run at in this one. The Ductor can’t find any alternatives.

Race 8: 7 Furlongs. F.G1 Longines Test Stakes

#2 Souper Sensational (6/1) – With a clean trip last time she showed what she can do sprinting and she’s working even better entering today. She has as good a chance as any in here and she’ll be a fair number.

Race 9: 1 3/16 Mile. (Turf) G1 Saratoga Derby Invitational Stakes

#7 Secret Protector (6/1) – A European will win this race, that the Conductor knows. Which one? He doesn’t have a strong opinion but he will put this colt on top. Appleby runners fire consistently in their first start in the states and this colt has yet to run a bad race.

Race 10: 1 1/8 Mile. G1 Whitney Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #3 Swiss Skydiver (6/1) – This is quite the race even with a small field and the Ductor is going for the latch. She ran a dud last time, but had a foot issue, so the Ductor will excuse her one more time. Her race in the Preakness last year can win this race and one of her best races was in the Alabama over this track. The Ductor still thinks this mare is a freak and will take a swing that she upsets the boys again today.

Whitney Stakes Day Plays at Saratoga

Dynamic image of multiple racehorses competing on a dirt track, showcasing speed and athleticism in a thrilling horse race.

After a long day in all aspects of life, the Conductor had enough stew to kill an elephant last night. He can barely open his eyes this morning…..but that’s when he reads the form the best. Whitney Stakes Day, Let’s Ride.

Race 1: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) Mdn 90k

#1 Chimney Rock (8/1) – This colt ran well in his debut in a sprint rained off the turf. He is bred to be much better stretching out on the lawn like he is today.

Race 2: 1 1/8 Mile. Alw 92000n1x

#7 Uncle Sigh (6/1) – This old gelding is a warrior, exiting a troubled trip last time out he offers value today.

Race 3: 7 Furlongs. Mdn 90k

#2 Dubai Bobby (8/1) – The Conductor bet this boy in his debut and he ran a decent closing 3rd. He should appreciate the added furlong and trainer Jonathan Thomas is 29% with a +$0.19 ROI switching horses from turf to dirt this year.

Race 4: 1 Mile. (Inner Turf) Clm 45000

*Gullet Shot of the Day #8 Siding Spring (8/1) – Dropping in class and shipping in from Woodbine, he’s faced much tougher recently. Woodbine shippers have been running well on the lawn at toga.

Race 5: 5 ½ Furlongs. (Turf) G3 Troy Stakes

#1 World of Trouble (3/5) – He’s a monster.

Race 6: 6½ Furlongs. Mdn 90k

#4 Westport (12/1) – Previously trained by Baffert, he ran a dud in his debut but was well bet. Now in the Servis barn, the Conductor will bet he runs off the screen.

Race 7: 1 1/16 Mile. (Inner Turf) Lure Stakes 100K

#8 Ticonderoga (4/1) – Dropping out of G3 company, he ran a thunderous late pace figure closing into a slow pace last start. The Conductor has always liked his finish.

Race 8: 7 Furlongs. F.G1 Test Stakes

#2 Bellafina (2/1) – The Conductor sees her as a cut above these fillies.

Race 9: 1 ¼ Mile. G1 Whitney Stakes

*Feature Double Barreled Favorite Beater #4 Thunder Snow (3/1) – The Conductor will use two horses in the feature to try and beat the favorite #6 Mckinzie (7/5). Mckinzie is ultra-talented, but he must prove to the Conductor he can win a race of this caliber going this far at a short price. Thunder Snow is tough as nails and one of the Conductor’s favorite horses in training.

#8 Preservationist (3/1) – Improving with every start and added distance, his win in the Grade 2 Suburban last time against a good horse in Catholic Boy gained the Conductor’s attention.

#5 Rock My Love (9/2) – Dropping out of Grade 2 stakes company where she ran well, the Conductor sees her taking a big step forward in her 2nd start off a long layoff.

Race 11: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) S.Alw 80000n1x

#6 Brockmoninoff (8/1) – Coming in off a long layoff, he broke his maiden impressively at Saratoga last year at this distance. George Weaver will break through at the Spa soon.
