There we go Conductor, there we go. Sonic Speed floats up to 7/1 and rings Belmont’s bell Thursday. If the pony gods can continue to hold off the rain, we’re going to have a big week. Keep the races on the turf and we’ll make NYRA beg for mercy. Unfortunately, not much has the Conductor excited today regardless. One simple winner today. Let’s Ride.

Race 7: 6 Furlongs. (Inner Turf) Clm 30000n2L

*Gullet Shot of the Day #2 Foliage (4/1) – This gelding was bet to favoritism on the class drop last time at Belmont and let down the public. It wasn’t a great effort, but he made up ground had absolutely no shot being so far back behind a slow pace. It was a complete merry go round race and the runners 1-2-3 early finished 1-2-3. Now making his 2nd start in the Joe Sharp barn he adds blinkers, draws well to the inside and will be a better price vs a weak group.

Wow, the Conductor thought there would be no chance they would be on the turf today at Belmont. This whole weekend doesn’t look good on the radar. Lucky us, we need to make up for last Sunday and this may be the only shot we get. Hopefully they stay on the turf for the entire card. They probably will take them off the turf right before the Conductor’s races start just to spit in his eye. 2/2 today with juicy prices. Let’s Ride.

Race 8: 1 1/16 Mile. (Inner Turf) F.OC 62500n1x

#1 Stephanie’s Charm (12/1) – This filly had some solid efforts vs stakes company this winter. She dropped to this level at Belmont last time after a bit of a break, and ran much better tan it looks on paper. She was sandwiched at start, made a 5-wide move on the turn and rightfully tired late. Now she draws well to the inside and always runs her best in her 2nd start off a layoff. The Conductor adores her in a race with very vulnerable favorites.

Race 9: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) Clm 35000b

*Gullet Shot of the Day #9 Sonic Speed (8/1) – This gelding took on much tougher at Belmont going 7-furlongs of the bench last time. That was likely a prep for this spot and he ran sneaky well in that start too. He was stuck behind horses in the stretch and galloped out well in front of the group. Dropping in class and stretching out 2nd off the layoff, he looks primed to run a top effort.

0/2 on a chalky Saturday at Belmont brings the train back into neutral. Slim pickings again on Sunday, but there is a bomb that can make our month. As great as the Belmont Stakes Day card was, these weekend New York cards have been severely lacking. The Conductor needs better weekend racing NYRA, clean it up. Let’s get some prices home. Skip.

Race 5: 7 Furlongs. (Turf) New York Stallion Stakes

#8 Twenty Six Black (5/2) – The Conductor cashed on this colt last time and he’s rolling with him again here. He’s steadily progressing and Mr. Ductor thinks he’s a budding state bred star. He’s a certified mower in the stretch. Taking on an average field today, he’ll get the job done.

Race 6: 1 Mile. MC 20000

#8 Mister Moore (8/1) – Throw out this gelding’s last race going two turns on the turf. His one turn race on turf vs tougher two starts back makes him a contender in here. He tries dirt for the first time today and the Conductor likes his potential to move forward. Additionally, he gets a nice outside draw and McCarthy takes the mount for a small, but profitable barn. With just 25 starters this year, trainer Lerman Roy is 24% with a +$0.24 ROI

Race 8: 7 Furlongs. (Turf) F.New York Stallion Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #4 Joeybignose (20/1) – Finally a bomb at Belmont that the Conductor is salivating to play. This filly tried turf for the first time last time and ran a career best race. She pressed the pace 3-wide uncovered on the turn, and finished best of the speeds in a race that melted down. Now she cuts back in distance and tries 7 furlongs on the turf for the first time. There aren’t any monsters in here and the race looks ripe for an upset. Making her 2nd turf start today, her big nose will hit the wire in front.

Keeneland Picks

The rain held off for the most part and we get turf racing at Belmont. The Conductor last left us with a gullet shot of the day winner Thursday and is ready to fire after a Friday off. Unfortunately, the Conductor doesn’t love the card and is going to keep it light and keep it tight. Narrow the scope, ready, aim, fire. Skip.

Race 2: 1 1/16 Mile. (Inner Turf) 1 1/6 Mdn 75k

*Gullet Shot of the Day #3 Berning Honor (6/1) – This is a weak maiden race and the Conductor likes this filly quite a bit. Returning to turf last time, she made a nice early move on the turn into a quick pace. She gets a better post today and the Conductor likes what he’s seen from Katie Davis in the irons this meet. 6/1 would be a generous price.

Belmont

Race 9: 7 Furlongs. F.G2 Bed o’ Roses Stakes

#4 Dr. B (4/1) – This is a salty Belmont field even with only 5 entries. Irad will likely make up for last time aboard Goodnight Olive (6/5)  and they probably win. However, Goodnight Olive doesn’t tower over this group and Mr. Ductor likes this filly Doctor. Dr. B is exiting a 2nd behind Caramel Swirl (5/2), but Dr.B may have run better. She was in a perfect position early, then shuffled back to last on the turn. It looked like she was destined to finish up the track, but she re-rallied for 2nd. That effort was off the bench and she should move forward with that race under her belt. The Conductor thinks she can pull the upset.

Belmont Stakes Day is over. A great day for horse racing and a great day to be a passenger. Time to get back to work. Skip.

Race 3: 1 1/16 Mile. (Inner Turf) Clm 30000n2L

#7 Paratus (2/1) – He made a nice middle move into a hot pace vs tougher last time. Dropping in class today, he looks like a cinch to the Conductor against this feeble group.

Race 4; 6½ Furlongs. Clm 40000

#5 Emerald Forest (6/1) – Making his first start at Belmont for the Morley barn, this gelding has back class and early speed in a dirt sprint without much other early pace. He’s working well and Morley is exceptional off the bench. He’s 21% with a +$1.01 ROI this year with starters +46-90 days away. With the bug aboard, he also gets a weight break today

Race 5: 7 Furlongs. (Turf) MC 40000

*Gullet Shot of the Day #2 Billy’s Got Issues (8/1) – This is a wide open maiden claiming race and the Conductor is going to take a stand with ol’ Billy Boy. Switching to turf for the first time last race, he improved and ran a solid 3rd in a merry go round race. He made up ground in the stretch and galloped out with the winner. He draws well here and should appreciate the extra furlong.

The Conductor is getting a head start on the biggest weekend of the Belmont meet. Thank you Mr. Ductor, we are grateful for all your hard work and dedication. Skip

Race 5: 1 Mile. Alw 50000s

#7 Thunderian (6/1) – This gelding pressed a quick early pace last time in a race that melted down. He was forced to dive back to the inside after being bumped in the stretch and finished well up the rail. With a nice outside draw today, the Conductor sees him running a winning race.

Race 7: 7 Furlongs. (Turf) S.Alw 80000n1x

#5 Be the Boss (5/1) – This gelding made his 4-year-old debut and 1st start for Maker last time. He won nicely on dirt and the Conductor likes that Maker moves him to the lawn. He’s 0/3 on the turf thus far in his career, but those starts have been for much weaker outfits. His breeding screams that he wants to mow on the grass and this allowance field is devoid of any quality turf runners. The Conductor sees him repeating his last race on dirt and pulling the train up to the windows to collect his coal.

Race 9: 1 1/16 Mile. F.G1 Acorn Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #8 Accede (8/1) – The Conductor likes all three of the Chad Brown runners in the Belmont Friday feature and put this filly on top. First and foremost, this race is going to have a blistering early pace and the Conductor is looking for a stalker. Accede couldn’t go by the favorite #5 Munnys Gold (9/5) last time, but that Churchill dirt surface was playing like a highway. It was nearly impossible to make up significant ground in the stretch. The added distance today will help Accedes chances in the Acorn, and he looks to get a perfect outside stalking trip with Prat aboard.

Belmont

Race 11: 6 Furlongs. (Inner Turf) F.G3 Intercontinental Stakes

#3 Clitheroe (15/1) – There weren’t any superstars in this filly’s American debut victory last time. However, she still overcame they layoff and a poor turf trip. She was hung 4-wide and uncovered most of the turn and still finished well in the stretch. The Conductor likes that she has early speed and back class across the pond. This filly is absolutely a contender in here and anything close to 15/1 would be an preposterous overlay.

Belmont Park Thursday Picks — June 8, 2023 | Belmont Stakes Week Kickoff

It’s officially Belmont Stakes week. No need to talk about the past, the future is now, The cards look much more enticing than the last few weeks. Let’s Ride.

Race 5: *1 3/8 Mile. (Inner Turf) F.OC 62500n2x

*Gullet Shot of the Day #5 Peace Seeker (12/1) – This mare ran better than it looks last time at this level off a short break. She had no chance far back behind an extremely slow pace and still finished well, galloping out in front. Now she stretches out to her best distance and will be the longest shot on the board. Beating this group is a lot to ask, but the Conductor sees her at least running in the trifecta.

Belmont

Race 7: 6 Furlongs. (Turf) OC 62500n2x

#2 Maxwell Esquire (6/1) – This Belmont specialist returns off the bench for Maker and gets a nice inside draw. Last May he made his seasonal debut at this distance and level and got the job done. With the favorites drawn to the outside, the Conductor thinks this race is ripe for an upset

#5 Into the Sunrise (8/1) – The Conductor has backed one Casse runner this meet and immediately regretted it. 2nd off the layoff today, he’ll try again with this gelding at a fair price. He’s the clear lone speed and will have no problem clearing to front without anyone else in here to challenge him. He can steal it gate to wire.

Race 9: *1 1/8 Mile. (Inner Turf) F.G2 Wonder Again Stakes

#4 Revalita (5/2) – This filly is a certified mower and has a huge late kick in the stretch. Her last race was even more impressive than it looks, closing against a speed favoring turf course. She’s clearly the most likely winner.

#2 Juniper’s Moon (6/1) – The Conductor needed her last time and she ran a winning race. She chased the pace 3-wide the entire turn and still finished strong. With an inside draw today, she has the potential to pull an upset.

Black and white image of a vintage train at a station with a person interacting with the tracks, showcasing railway history.

1/4 with a 5/2 winner and 9/1 2nd wasn’t a great Saturday at Belmont, but at least the train showed some sort of life. Just like a pony rounding into form, subtle improvement is a good sign for the next day at the betting windows. Lucky for us, the next day is today. Skip.

Race 7: *1 1/8 Mile. (Inner Turf) Alw 50000s

#3 Urban Myth (8/1) – This gelding has run well in his last two starts since returning to the turf for a 4% barn. Last time vs allowance company at Gulfstream, he was keen early and was stuck inside where he had no where to run but up a horses ass. He was only beaten a length that day an galloped out well. Now he’s making his first start for a much better outfit and draws well to the inside. He isn’t facing the toughest allowance group today either.

#9 Blame D Rule Maker (8/1) – This gelding has clearly found his calling on the turf and has sneaky class for a maiden having faced Carl Spackler two back. He was very game breaking his maiden last time running down an even money favorite loose on the lead. He’ll likely get ignored at the Belmont windows shipping in from Laurel, but he can absolutely beat this field. The Conductor makes the rules.

Race 8: 7 Furlongs. (Turf) Clm 40000

*Gullet Shot of the Day #9 Original (15/1) – He finally returned to form dropping to the claiming ranks last time at Tampa. It’s a positive sign that they bump him up in class after that victory. Additionally, this level is no concern for the Conductor. This gelding showed real talent as a 3-year-old and has clearly had trouble staying healthy since. He’s won a stakes race over this Belmont turf course before and has run well vs much tougher fields. Terranova has them ready to run off the bench too. If he’s ready to run his A race like the Conductor projects, Original will end our weekend in style.

A derailed steam locomotive resting on its side, showcasing the mechanical details and structure of the train.

The losing streak continues for the Conductor. Belmont is bringing him to his knees. He can’t sleep, he can’t eat, but he still can cap. Nobody cares Mr. Ductor cap harder.

Race 4: 7 Furlongs. (Turf) F.S.Mdn 75k

#5 Snowy Evening (9/2) – This filly has improved in her last two starts since returning to the turf. Last time, she made up significant ground in the stretch closing into a moderate pace and galloped out in front. She’s the most likely winner in the Conductor’s opinion and he’s hoping this morning line is accurate.

Race 5: 6 Furlongs. Clm 25000

*Gullet Shot of the Day #7 Charlie Five O (12/1) – Who has the nuts to bet on a 2% trainer? The Conductor does of course. Despite his barn, this gelding has been consistently running figures that can win at this level vs tougher. He finally gets the class relief he needs today and back to Belmont where he’s 2/2 lifetime. He looks to get a perfect outside stalking trip and will be finishing late exiting a 7 furlong race. He will dig us out of this hole. Skip.

Belmont

Race 7: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) Mdn 90k

#7 Fly Right (6/1) – This colt just missed in his debut at Saratoga last summer vs a salty field. He’s making his first start as a 3-year-old off the bench today and certainly has the talent to beat this group. It’s hard to take a swing at him off the layoff with Leah Gyramati’s poor trainer stats. However, his strong debut makes the Conductor less concerned about his fitness off the bench. Additionally, Franco hops aboard for a barn for a barn he never rides for. The Conductor’s got that feeling in his left knee that this colt is ready to fire.

Race 9: *1 1/8 Mile. (Inner Turf) G2 Pennine Ridge Stakes

#4 Silver Knott (2/1) – To say this colt has a class advantage over this group would be a major understatement. If he actually goes off the 2nd choice, the Conductor will be shoveling coal through the windows. He gets back to a firm turf course today, which he clearly prefers.

Gulfstream Park picks

O/3 Thursday  with two 2nds and a no chance trip for the Conductor’s Gullet Shot. This is getting ugly. The Conductor will be playing She’s a Natural again when she shows up with an inside draw. The tide will turn, but I hope we’re not broke before it does. Let’s go Mr. Ductor the Belmont is a week away! Skip.

Race 2: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.MC 75000

*Gullet Shot of the Day #2 Solevo Spritz (8/1) – Claimed on debut, the Gustavo Rodriguez barn must have seen something in the mornings prior. Although he’s only 9% on the year, he’s 18% with a +$0.06 ROI with runners 1st off the claim. The Conductor liked what this filly showed last time too. She was bumped early and made a decent 4-wide move on the turn. She’s working well at Belmont and should take a big step forward today stretching out in her 2nd career start.

Belmont

Race 6: *1 1/8 Mile. (Inner Turf) OC 62500n1x

#1 Regal Kingdom (10/1) – This colt ran well last time vs stakes company 1st off the claim for Motion. He ran evenly behind a slow pace and that race looks to set him up perfectly for the stretch out in distance. He gets a nice rail draw here and this race looks ripe for an upset. The Conductor is leery of the two favorites who have only maiden wins on their resumes.

Race 9: *1 3/8 Mile. (Inner Turf) Mdn 90k

#6 Typhoon Lagoon (6/1) – He lost an all out gutter war down the stretch last time to a Chad Brown favorite at this distance. He’s progressed with each start and the Conductor thinks he’ll be an overlay at the windows. With a couple of Chad Brown and Clement runners, plus Keeneland shippers in here, he’ll be overlooked. He’s the only horse in the field that has proven this distance will not be a problem and 6/1 would be a square price.
