The Feature — Race 13, The Belmont Stakes

The Conductor likes #7 Commandment, currently 5/1. He had a poor trip in the Derby and ran better than it looks, moving early and wide into a slow pace.

#4 Renegade is the rightful favorite but way overbet here. He got destroyed at the start of the Derby, but the pace scenario worked in his favor.

Black and white image of a vintage bus driver wearing a cap, seated inside a classic bus, showcasing a nostalgic transportation theme.

Run Curtis Run needed one more jump Friday and the pain train continues. Back to back days with brutal beats have killed lesser men, but that’s why he’s the Conductor and we’re not. A beautiful Belmont Stakes card is in front of us and we have no choice but to pick up a shovel and get back to work. Let’s fill this caboose with some coal. Skip.

Race 8: 7 Furlongs. G1 Woody Stephens Stephens Stakes

#7 Prince of Monaco (7/2) – This Baffert colt showed serious talent last year sprinting. Making his first start as a 3-year-old today, he’s a cut above this group. He’s working like a typical Baffert monster and looks to get an ideal trip sitting just behind a contested pace.

#1 Book’em Danno (9/2) – The only horse the Conductor can see beating the Prince is this gelding on the rail. He’s undefeated sprinting and proved his class last time only beaten a neck by Forever Young. Forever Young then came back to run a winning race in the Kentucky Derby. The rail is usually dicey in sprints, but it’s typically a good place to be at Saratoga. If they go quick early as expected, the Conductor can see him tipping out and running them down late.

Race 12: 1 1/4 Mile. G1 Belmont Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #10 Mindframe (7/1) – This looks like a very competitive version of the Belmont Stakes on paper. #9 Sierre Leone (9/5) is the rightful favorite, but is currently even money and a massive overlay on a speed favoring Saratoga track. The Conductor has been a sucker with lightly raced horses like Mindframe before, but he thinks this colt has serious talent. The way he has finished off his races has been very impressive. The Conductor’s eyes don’t lie and this colt is a potential monster in a field of average 3-year-olds. Mindframe will sit a perfect trip stalking #1 Seize the Grey (4/1) and #6 Dornach (14/1) who will set a solid pace. 7/1 will be a gift from the pony gods in the 2024 Belmont Stakes. Make sure you take advantage.

Saratoga Friday Picks — Belmont Stakes Weekend (June 7, 2024) | Best Bets & Analysis

tilt shift focus photography of man riding horse

Maximum pain Thursday as Champagne Juan gets nailed at the wire. The Conductor is still having trouble picking himself off the mat. Alas, it’s a new day and this Saratoga card is ripe for the taking. Let’s make them pay and then some. Skip

Race 3: 1 1/8 Mile. (Inner Turf) Alw 50000s

#5 Addicted to You (8/1) – This gelding has improved since moving into the Horacio De Paz barn. Last time off the bench, he was sandwiched at start, causing him to take a bad step early. He still closed strongly into a slow pace and galloped out in front of the pack. The Conductor thinks he’ll appreciate the added distance today and 8/1 is more than fair.

Race 5: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) OC 62500n2x

#7 Run Curtis Run (10/1) – This horse ran well in his last turf start at Keeneland two back. He pressed the pace 3-wide and uncovered entire way and he never quit. You can ignore his last race in the slop. Run Curtis Run now returns to his best distance and surface and 10/1 is a massive overlay vs this group. The Conductor thinks he’s the most likely winner.

Race 11: 1 3/16 Mile. (Turf) F.G1 New York Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #6 Fev Rover (8/1) – This mare disappointed the Conductor in the Breeders’ Cup last year. However, he will give her another shot in an ideal spot today at Saratoga. She likes a soft turf course and looks to get an ideal trip, up close or setting a moderate pace. Fev Rover is classy and will be tough to pass when she has the lead entering the stretch. Her win two back in the EP Taylor stakes was as impressive a performance as you’ll see. If she runs back to that race, she wins.

Belmont Stakes Saturday Picks — June 10, 2023 | Belmont Stakes Day at Belmont Park

Belmont Stakes 2023

Well, Canada’s forest fires have postponed Thursday’s  card. However, the forecast looks like it should clear up by tomorrow. Saturday has one of the best Belmont Stakes cards the Conductor’s eyes have ever seen. There will be smoke in the air then too, but only from our train burning off excess coal. We’re going to win too much to keep it all. Skip.

Race 2: 7 Furlongs. (Turf) F.S.Alw 80000n1x

#3 Sikum (10/1) – This mare has become a new animal in the Jose Comejo barn. She ran a solid 2nd at 32/1 at this level two starts back and ran even better last time. In that last start, she was eviscerated at the break and didn’t throw in the towel to close for 4th beaten only 2 1/4 lengths. With a nice inside draw today in an open race, 10/1 is a tasty number.

Race 4: 7 Furlongs. Alw 95000n1x

#5 Allaboutthemoney (5/1) – This gelding is cycling back to a top effort for Jacobson and his races at Aqueduct this winter are fast enough to beat this group. He ran a thunderous late pace figure last time closing into a slow pace. Irad will time his run right and he’ll blow past them all in the stretch.

Race 7: 1 1/16 Mile. F.G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes

#1 Pass the Champagne (8/1)#6 Clairier (6/5) is the most likely winner in the Conductor’s eyes, but this is the one mare that intrigues Mr. Ductor at a price. She showed real talent as a 3-year-old and is finally developing into her best self. She had a great trip last time in the Ruffian, but was dominant in victory. That race absolutely makes her a contender in here and she’ll be overlooked at the windows.

Race 8: 7 Furlongs. G1 Woody Stephens Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #8 Fort Bragg (5/1) – The Conductor is still wincing in pain recalling this colt’s defeat on Derby day. He broke slow, rushed up to set a scorching pace and was just nailed at the wire by #4 General Jim (7/2). He ran too well to lose that day and now he’s back in Bobby Baffert’s barn. We will make Belmont atone for Churchill’s sins. Fort Bragg will be a major factor in the Conductor’s Belmont Stakes day bottom line.

Belmont Stakes

Race 9: 6 Furlongs. (Turf) G1 Jaipur Stakes

#11 Casa Creed (9/2) – This classy old horse has won this race 3 times and his race in Dubai this February showed the Conductor he hasn’t lost a step. The post isn’t ideal, but the field should be strung out with a quick pace up front. The Conductor is absolutely against the favorite #12 Caravel (3/1) going 6-furlongs. He’s a 5 1/2 furlong specialist and exiting a win over a speed favoring Churchill turf course.

Race 10: 1 Mile. G1 Hill ‘N’ Dale Metropolitan H.

#3 Dr. Schivel (10/1) – #1 Cody’s Wish (7/5) has turned into a monster and the Conductor can’t knock him. But, you know Mr. Ductor doesn’t get excited about even money shots. The one price that the Conductor thinks has a chance to pull an upset is this doctor. He would have been a Breeders’ Cup Sprint Champion with a cleaner trip back in 2021. Additionally, he’s the lone speed if he wants the lead in here. He won his prep off a year layoff as easy as can be last time and Irad hops aboard, so you know he’s ready to roll. The Doctor has the back class and talent to make Cody’s Wish fight for this one.

Belmont Stakes

Race 11: 1‚ Mile. (Inner Turf) G1 Resorts World Casino Manhattan Stakes

#3 Warren Point (5/1), #4 Ottoman Fleet (5/2) – The Conductor likes this race the least of this amazing Saturday card. Warren Point let him last time and Appleby may have lost his fastball in America, but the Conductor just can’t get behind any of the Americans. If you have a horse you like in here, DM Mr. Ductor he’d be happy to here from you. As of now he’s just going to try and escape this leg with the Euros with a class edge.

Race 12: 1½ Mile. G1 Belmont Stakes

#3 Arcangelo (8/1) – This ridgling has already cashed for the Conductor and has improved with each start. Making his first start around two turns and going 1 1/2 miles is a lot to ask, but the Conductor thinks he has serious potential. Castellano rode him like he couldn’t lose last time. In that victory, he ran an enormous late pace figure despite being in an all out gutter war with a quality Cox horse down the stretch. The Conductor is willing to find out how much talent this boy has if he’s around this morning line.

#7 Hit Show (10/1) – Of the runners exiting the Kentucky Derby, the Conductor likes this colt the most and he’s the best price! He made an early middle move into that scorching pace and stayed on well enough down the stretch. There will be a moderate pace in this Belmont Stakes and he looks to get a much more favorable trip today. His late pace figures prior to the Derby give the Conductor no qualms about the longer distance for him.

#2 Tapit Trice (3/1) – Of the shorter priced morning lines, the Conductor likes him over #6 Forte (5/2) and #8 Angel of Empire (7/2). Forte has serious health concerns and both him and Angel of Empire are deep closers in a race with out much early speed. Tapit Trice is slow early too, but its more because how quirky he is. His antics caught up to him in the Derby, but that was to be anticipated in a 20-horse field. He has the grinding running style that suits this distance and Pletcher wins the Belmont Stakes most years with this type of horse. With a smaller field Tapit Trice will gallop along and could out last them all.

Belmont Stakes Day Key Horses

Estilo Talentoso and Baron Samedi got the job done yesterday, but no juicy prices. The Conductor is tingling looking at this Belmont Stakes card. Its time for battle, Let’s Ride.

Race 3: 7 Furlongs. G1 Woody Stephens Stakes

#6 Caddo River (4/1) – Cutting back to a sprint after dueling going longer, this colt looks to get a perfect stalking trip from the outside. There looks to be a scorching pace for #3 Jackie’s Warrior (7/5) to deal with. #4 Dream Shake (5/2) would be the Ductor’s 2nd choice.

Race 5: 1 Mile. F.G1 Acorn Stakes

#3 Miss Brazil (5/1) – This filly was only beaten only 1/2 length by #6 Search Results (1/1), the deserving favorite, in March. She couldn’t have looked better last time and the Ductor thinks she’s improving and will be very tough to pass in the stretch at a nice number. #4 Dayoutoftheoffice (4/1) has a major chance 2nd off the layoff as well.

Race 7: 1 1/16 Mile. F.G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes

#7 Bonny South (10/1) – Its a small field after scratches, but she’ll likely be an overlay in the horizontals. She ran some monster races last year and is working her eyeballs out 2nd off the layoff. She can upset the heavy favorites #3 Letruska (9/5) and #5 Shedaresthedevil (5/2).

Race 8: 1 Mile. (Turf F.G1 Longines Just a Game Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #9 Summer Romance (6/1) – The Conductor likes both the Appleby runners in here and prefers this filly after the scratch of Blowout. She’ll be on the lead and be very tough to run down.

Belmont Stakes

Race 9: 1 Mile. G1 Hill ‘N’ Dale Met Mile

#6 Knicks Go (6/5) – Gate to wire.

Race 10: 1 1/4 Mile. (Inner Turf) Manhattan-G1

#4 Domestic Spending (3/1) – He’s a monster and the clear one to beat in the Ductor’s opinion. However, there are some prices the he likes as well. #2 Bye Bye Melvin (30/1) was wide around both turns last time and has been wide in his last few starts. 3rd off the layoff today, he runs his best on softer ground and will get a ground saving trip today. #7 Channel Cat (12/1) was incredibly gutsy last time on the front end and although he’ll take early pressure today, the Conductor will be including him.

Race 11: 1½ Mile. G1 Belmont Stakes

#7 Rock Your World (9/2) – Any of the contenders would not surprise the Ductor in here, but he has to give this colt another try after getting wiped out in the Derby. With a clean break today, he looks to be the controlling speed and he doesn’t need the lead if he doesn’t want it. If you watch his gallop outs, the distance should be no issue and he could be the most talented of this bunch. The Ductor will be pressing Rock Your World in his bets, but can’t knock #2 Essential Quality (2/1), #3 Rombaur (3/1), #4 Hot Rod Charlie (7/2) and #6 Known Agenda (6/1).

Belmont Stakes Day, Let’s Ride.

Race 1: 1 1/16 Mile. Alw 92000n1x

#2 Shadow Rider (8/1) – The Conductor is going to key him underneath in the exacta.  He has the strongest late pace figures and should get a decent pace to close into.

Race 2: 1 ¼ Mile. Mdn 90k

#2 Better Tapit (6/1) – This jockey/trainer combo hit with a 1st timer yesterday. This cold is well-bred.

Race 3: 1 1/16 Mile. 150K Easy Goer Stakes

#4 Outshine (9/5) – He got wiped out in the Wood last time, his 2nd in the Tampa Bay Derby makes him the one to beat.

Race 4: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.G1 Just A Game Stakes

#4 Rushing Fall (4/5) – She’s the Goods

Race 5: 1 1/16 Mile. F. G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes

#1 Come Dancing (6/5) – She has an early pace edge over the favorite #2 Midnight Bisou (1/1) and the rest of the field.

Race 6: 6 Furlongs. (Turf) G1 Jaipur Invitational Stakes

#8 World of Trouble (1/1) – He’s nails right now.

Race 7: 1 Mile. F.G1 Acorn Stakes

*Never a Doubt Under Card Lock of the Day #7 Guarana (2/1) – The birdies are chirping that she is a freak. Jose Ortiz also chose to jump off the Oaks winner #1 Serengeti Empress (5/2) to ride her.

belmont stakes

Race 8: 7 Furlongs. G1 Woody Stephens Stakes

#1 Honest Mischief (6/1) – Finally somewhat of a price to play. This colt’s maiden breaker at Keeneland last start dropped the Conductor’s jaw.

Race 9: 1 Mile. G1 Met Mile

*Gullet Shot of the Day #8 Pavel (20/1) – #2 Mckinzie, #3 Mitole, #4 Thunder Snow and #7 Firenze Fire should all be used on top, but the Conductor is going to key this bomb in the trifecta. He’s always wanted to go shorter in the Conductor’s opinion and he sees him getting a perfect stalking trip from the outside.

belmont stakes

Race 10: 1 1/4 Mile. (Inner Turf) G1 Manhattan Stakes

#3 Robert Bruce (6/1) – He gets back to firm turf today and also has tactical speed in a race devoid of pace. However, one of the Chad Brown runners will obviously win.

Race 11: 1½ Mile. G1 Belmont Stakes

#5 Bourbon of War (12/1) – The Conductor’s Belmont Stakes Preview

Race 12: 1 1/8 Mile. (Inner Turf) OC 62500n2x

#5 Near Gold (8/1) – The Conductor isn’t impressed with any of the American runners so he’ll turn to the French import.

Race 13: 1½ Mile. G2 Woodford Reserve Stakes

#3 Sonateer (10/1) – He romped in his 1st try at the distance last start. Moreover, this may be what he’s wanted all along.

What a three-day card we have in front of us at Belmont. Strap in, Let’s Ride.

Race 1: 1 3/8 Mile. (Turf) OC 25000n1x

#2 Pillar Mountain (5/2) – 2nd off the layoff, he closed nicely into a slow pace last time.  The Conductor really like his effort at Saratoga as well.

Race 2: 1 Mile. S.Alw 74000n1x

*Gullet Shot of the Day #7 Joe’s Smokin Gun (15/1) – The favorites in here are exiting good efforts over sloppy tracks, while he ran a poorly over one. His fast dirt track form makes him competitive in here and he has upside stretching out to a mile for the 1st time. The Conductor will key him in the trifecta.

belmont park

Race 3: 1 1/8 Mile. (Inner Turf) F.G3 Wonder Again Stakes

#3 Newspaperofrecord (1/5) – She’ll strut her stuff today.

Race 4: 6 ½ Furlongs. F.Mdn 90k

#1 Liza Jambalaya (5/1) – She’s well-bred and working like a good thing by all accounts in the mornings. The rail has been good so far this meet.

Race 5: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.Mdn 90k

*Never a Doubt Conductor Note Playback Lock of the Day #9 Keepme in Thegame (7/2) – This filly ran a solid closing 3rd into a slow pace in her debut at Keeneland. The Conductor had a note on her to play her back, which makes her an absolute lock.

belmont park

Race 6: 6 ½ Furlongs. Alw 92000n1x

#1 Hersh (7/2) – This colt’s maiden breaker at Saratoga was eye catching.  With natural progression he’s very dangerous and just posted a bullet work.

Race 7: 5 ½ Furlongs. F.150k Astoria Stakes

#3 Perfect Alibi (5/2) – She was with the Conductor the night of the murder, she swears.

Race 8: 7 Furlongs. (Turf) F.G3 Intercontinental Stakes

#1 Enthusiastic Gal (20/1) – She’s taking a big step up in class, but steadily progressing and making her 2nd start off a layoff.  She’s 4/4 at Belmont and the Conductor will key her in the trifecta at a big number.

Race 9: 6 Furlongs. (Inner Turf) S.Mdn 72k

#3 Blue Parrot (10/1) – Well-bred for top connections, the runners with experience in here are nothing special.

The Conductor’s Belmont Stakes Preview

Image displaying the entries for the 151st Belmont Stakes horse race with horse names and numbers.

The posts drew for the Belmont Stakes last night and now it’s time to go to work.  There is an inordinate number of deep closers in this race, and the Conductor hopes all the suckers fall for them because of the added distance. This race will favor those in the first flight like it has the last in the last decade.

Race 11: 1 1/2 Mile. G1 Belmont Stakes

#1 Joevia (30/1) – He caused the chaos in the Wood and came back for a gate to wire win in a prep race last start. He’s the bomb the Conductor is most intrigued about in this race.  He’s the lone horse that want the lead. If he breaks well and goes right to the front, he can get brave late and surprise everyone but the Conductor.  The Conductor will use him heavily in 2nd and 3rd in the trifecta and possibly a sprinkle on top.

#2 Everfast (12/1) – He road a gold rail and got a hot pace to close into in the Preakness, the Conductor won’t use him anywhere especially at that price.

#3 Master Fencer (8/1) – The Derby was a funky race with the track and he’ll be coming from way out of it.  He missed the break and ran well, but if he’s not double-digit odds the Conductor won’t use anywhere.  The Conductor will make him prove him wrong

#4 Tax (15/1) – The Conductor is drawing a line thru his Derby race.  If you do that he fits very nicely in this spot. The distance is a question, but he’ll get a perfect trip up close to a slow pace. The Conductor will use him heavily in 2nd and 3rd and maybe a few saver tickets on top.

*#5 Bourbon War (12/1)

– He ran a dud in the Preakness, but the Conductor will give him another shot taking the blinkers back off.  He can run all day and the Conductor thinks he may have the most potential of any runner in this group.  The Conductor will lean on that live Florida Derby form.

belmont stakes

#6 Spinoff (15/1) – Just copy and paste what the Conductor said about tax. He looks to get a dream trip and the Conductor sees him running well.

#7 Sir Wisnston (15/1) – He took a major step forward in the Peter Pan last start, but he helped with a hot pace to close into. The Conductor can’t see him any better than 3rd.

#8 Intrepid Heart (10/1) – He stumbled at the start in the Peter Pan and was prepping for this race all along.  He adds blinkers, will be forwardly placed and is very dangerous. The Conductor will use him in all 3 spots in the trifecta.

#9 War of Will (2/1) – He won nicely in the Preakness, but you can’t ask for a better trip.  Its hard to see him not running well here, but the stubborn Conductor will take a stand against him on top.  He’ll allow him to run 2nd or 3rd.

*#10 Tacitus (9/5) – The Conductor liked him a lot going into the Derby and he ran a solid race. He should be mid-pack and will grind all day like Belmont Stakes winners do. He’s the one to beat.
