Black-Eyed Susan Stakes Friday Picks — May 19, 2023 | Pimlico Preakness Weekend Kickoff

A vibrant group of women in colorful outfits posing together at an event, showcasing unique fashion styles and accessories.

Let’s pick up some momentum at Pimlico heading into tomorrow. Black-Eyed Susan Stakes Friday, Let’s Ride. Skip.

Race 9: 5 Furlongs. (Turf) F.The Very One Stakes

#4 Can the Queen (6/1) – This mare is working well off the bench and won this race last year at 6/1. She’s 3/5 over this Pimlico turf course and looks to get a good trip sitting just behind the dueling leaders. This Queen can go back to back.

Race 10: 6 Furlongs. F.G3 Miss Preakness Stakes

#4 Afternoon Tea (8/1) – #2 Key of Life (1/1) is clearly the one to beat, but she’ll take pressure early and Afternoon Tea looks to get a perfect trip. She’s taking a big step up in class today, but her maiden breaker last time was about as fast as Key of Life’s last win. Afternoon Tea has talent and is worth a shot at 8x the price.

Race 11: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.Hilltop Stakes

#10 After Eight (12/1) – There isn’t much early pace in this race and this filly will have no problem clearing over from the 10 post. The Conductor was visually impressed with how easily she broke her maiden at Keeneland last time. She’ll be on the lead or sitting 2nd, clicking off moderate fractions today. She’ll have every chance as they turn for home.

Race 13: 1 1/8 Mile. F.G2 George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes

*#7 Comparative (12/1) – The Conductor thinks this is the only filly in the race with a shot to beat #9 Faiza (7/5). Comparative took a big step forward after a short break last time at Keeneland and has been working bullets since. Additionally, she doesn’t have to improve much on speed figures to beat Faiza and she likely will step forward for the Cox barn. Saez will be aggressive early and Faiza will have to pass her in the stretch, which will be no easy task. A Baffert/Cox exacta in a major stakes race…yay horse racing.

Two jockeys racing on gray horses during a horse race, showcasing intense competition and athleticism in equestrian sports.

King Moonracer couldn’t get to the favorite at 12/1 yesterday, but the exacta and trifecta still paid nice. Down to Maryland we go and there is a hell of a card today with the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes. The Conductor is going for the #Gullet in the feature. Love to see it. Let’s Ride.

Race 11: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.HilltopB100K

#5 Bubbles On Ice (7/2) – She showed the Conductor a lot last time, winning in her 1st start in the US off the bench and her first time routing to boot. She will be tough in here.

Race 12: 1 3/16 Mile. G3 Pimlico Special

#6 Prioritize (10/1) – Making his first start of the year, he’s working well for Bond and the Ductor thinks he’s very live with this aggressive placing. He has multiple efforts that make him competitive against this group and the distance will be no problem.

Race 13: 1 1/8 Mile. F.S.-G2 George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #1 Army Wife (8/1) – The Conductor’s day will come down to this girl. She’s coming out of the strongest race behind Search Results and got completely stopped in the stretch. She somehow still re-rallied to pass #8 The Grass is Blue (6/1) for 3rd, and it is comical to thing she’ll be a higher price today. There will be pace to run at in here and this filly looks to get a nice ground saving trip.

Preakness time, Let’s Ride.

Race 7: 6 Furlongs. G3 Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash Stakes

#5 Landeskog (5/2) – This gelding won his prep nicely off the layoff last time and is working well entering today. He’s shown the Conductor he has talent in his young career and the Conductor will single to start of this bad boy.

Race 8: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) Laurel Futurity

#6 Arrest Me Red (6/1) – He won his debut easily and stretches out for the first time today. Trainer Arnaud Delacor is a ridiculous 38% with a +$0.89 ROI with horses at a route this year.

Other contenders: 1,3,7,8,10

Race 9: 1 Mile. (Turf) James W. Murphy Stakes

#9 Monday Morning QB (8/1) – Nothing would surprise the Conductor in this race, but he would love anything close to 8/1 on this colt. 2nd off the layoff, he’s steadily progressing and has yet to run a bad race. If he can translate his dirt form to turf he will have a major chance.

Other Contenders: 7,10,12,13 / ALL

Race 10: 1 1/8 Mile. F.G2 George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes

#3 So Darn Hot (6/1) – The Conductor was very impressed by this filly’s maiden breaker in June. She ran a decent comeback race in the slop with a wide trip last time and the Conductor sees her sitting on a big one today.

Other Contender: #5 Bonny South (7/5)

Race 11: 1 3/16 Mile. G1 Preakness Stakes

*Esophagus Slice Saturday Play of the Day #3 Art Collector (5/2) – Preakness Preview

14 race card for Black-Eyed Susan Stakes Day, what a war. Let’s Ride.

Race 1: 6 Furlongs. F.MC 10000

#2 Midnight Mass (5/1) – She pressed a hot pace vs tougher going a mile and is cutting back to a sprint. Easy winner to start the card.

Race 2: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) OClm 25000

#8 Family Tree (6/1) – 2nd off the layoff, dropping in class, he showed good form across the pond. He also adds blinkers today.

Race 3: 6 Furlongs. F.Mdn 50k

#1 China Cat (4/1) – She bets this group and graduates today.

Race 4: 5 Furlongs. (Turf) MC 40000

#5 Ready to Run (15/1) – He’s the quickest early and with a name like that you know this boy is live.

Race 5: 6 Furlongs. F.Alw 52000n1x

#8 The Aurelia Factor (6/1) – If Baffert is shipping in this filly, she’s ready to run.

Race 6: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) Alw 52000n1x

#7 Seeking the Sunset (6/1) – Her last two blowout wins have caught the Conductor’s eye. 2nd off the layoff there is no reason not to play her.

Race 7 – 11: Black-Eyed Susan Day Late Pick 5 Preview

Race 12: 5 Furlongs. (Turf) Turf Sprint Stakes 100K

*Never a Doubt Friday Night Lock of the Day #3 Bound for Nowhere (1/1) – 2nd off the layoff, he’s a class above.

Race 13: 1 1/8 Mile. D.G3 Allaire DuPont Distaff Stakes

#5 Another Broad (7/2) – The fillies come and the fillies go.

Race 14: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.MC 25000

*Gullet Shot of the Day #6 Go Amanda (10/1) – She’s run well on the dirt and her breeding suggests she’ll step forward on the turf. The Conductor will go for the throat to end Black-Eyed Susan Stakes Day.

Props to Pimlico on putting together a great Friday card. Full 14 race plays will be up Friday, but the Conductor will preview the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes Day pick 5, which will get most of his attention. A big Friday means we can go for the jugular on Saturday and we know how much the Conductor like to kill. Let’s Ride.

Race 7: 6 Furlongs. F. Skipat Stakes 100k

#3 Chalon (6/5) – Nothing like starting the pick 5 with a stone cold single.  We’ll find out if we’re alive or dead right from the jump. She looks like a clear stand out.

Race 8: 6 Furlongs. F. G3 Adena Springs Miss Preakness Stakes

#2 Covfefe (7/2) – She’s the lone A for the Conductor and he’ll heavily press her. 2 of her 3 career races blow this field away.

#1 Iva (15/1), #6 Never Enough Time (6/1), #7 Miss Imperial (8/1), #10 By Bye Jay (12/1), #11 Fighting Mad (4/1), and #12 Midnight Fantasy (12/1) will be used as backups.

#12 Midnight Fantasy (12/1) – She’s undefeated sprinting and is the price the Conductor will key in the trifecta.

Race 9: 1 Mile. (Turf) F. Hilltop Stakes 100k

#2 Nova Sol (7/2), #5 Dogtag (9/2) – Chad Brown wins every turf race.

#12 Orra Moor (10/1) – If there is somebody that can beat Chad, it’s Todd.  This girl has run quality races on the dirt vs tough competition, if her form can translate to the turf she’ll be dangerous.

Race 10: 1 ¼ Mile. G3 Pimlico Special Stakes

This is going to be a spread race for the Conductor, this field is wide open and almost everyone has a chance.

#7 Just Whistle (20/1) – This is the Conductor’s favorite bomb in here and the one he’ll be keying in the exacta and trifecta. The distance will be no problem with his strong late pace figures and his last race was better than it looks, trying to close into a tepid pace on a speed favoring track. He can make the Conductor’s day.

Race 11: 1 1/8 Mile. F.G2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes

#7 Brill (5/1) – Making her 3rd start off the layoff, she looks to get a perfect trip sitting just behind the leaders.  She has loads of talent and her last race in the Fantasy stakes has come back live.

#8 Point of Honor (5/2) – Her late pace figures are thunderous.  If she gets any pace to run at she’ll be tough to beat.

#2 Off Topic (8/1) – She’s the price the Conductor likes most.  She’s a closer who caught a slow pace last start.  She won’t surprise the Conductor.
