Gulfstream Park Saturday Picks — January 11, 2025 | Best Bets & Full Card Handicapping

Thoroughbred racehorse galloping on the track at Gulfstream Park with jockey in yellow attire and cheering crowd in the background.

0/2 at Gulfstream at Friday. The Conductor isn’t going to survive the winter at this rate. However, it only takes one good day, one good race, one good head bob to turn everything around. Grab a shovel and get to work passengers. We have coal to mine. Skip.

Race 1: 7½ Furlongs. (Turf) MC 25000

#12 Oscarworthy (8/1) – This gelding dropped in class off the bench last time and ran better than it looks with a wide trip around both turns. He draws an outside post again today, but the cutback in distance will work to his advantage. There is speed drawn to his inside and Johnny V should be able to work out a decent trip. The Conductor thinks he’s the most likely winner in the race and he’ll be a square price.

Race 5: 1 Mile. (Turf) Sunshine Filly and Mare Turf Stakes

#3 Princess Bettina (6/1) – The Conductor is turning to the same connections in race 5. Princess Bettina returned off the bench last time for her first start in the Brian Lynch barn. She had absolutely no chance that day, as she was in the parking lot around both turns. Now 2nd off a layoff and drawing a nice inside post, she looks to get a favorable trip and should fire her best shot. She has multiple past performances that would put her in the winners’ circle here.

Race 9: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) OC 75000n1x

#9 Scarecrow (8/1) – The Conductor is going to play against the heavy favorite in here, #6 Dream On (6/5), who has distance question marks. Scarecrow will undoubtedly appreciate the added distance today. He’s run big late pace figures behind slow paces in all 3 starts of his career. Last time he made a very wide move from last against the merry go round flow. He’ll have pace to run at today and the Conductor thinks he can pull off the upset.

Sunland Park Friday Picks — January 10, 2025 | Best Bets & Handicapping

Two racehorses competing on a dirt track, showcasing speed and agility, with jockeys in vibrant uniforms during a horse racing event.

Well, who had the train headed to New Mexico on their bingo card today. Not you? Silly passengers, you get the best rewards in the game playing Sunland Park today at Iron Bets. Let’s Ride.

Race 5: 5½ Furlongs. Alw 28800n2L

#6 Aztec Sun (7/2) – This gelding continues to just miss getting his 2nd career win. His 2nd off the layoff last time was better than it looks, closing behind a slow pace. He was claimed out of that race by trainer Andres Gonzalez, who is 24% with a +$0.57 ROI this year with runners 1st off the claim. Aztec Sun cuts back to his best distance today and looks to get a perfect outside stalking trip. The Conductor sees the new barn getting him over the hump.

Race 9: 5½ Furlongs. F.Mdn 25.2k

#2 Luxury Ride (10/1) – This filly was hammered at the windows after a scorching work tab in her debut. That last effort was too bad to be believed. The Conductor likes that she returns quickly to the race track and adds Lasix for the first time. We’ll get a much better price today and Luxury Ride will show what she’s really capable of here.

Gulfstream Park Friday Picks — January 10, 2025 | Best Bets & Full Card Handicapping

Thoroughbred racehorse galloping on a green racetrack with jockey in red and other horses in the background during a horse race.

Happy Friday, passengers. No Santa Anita today with the terrible fires out in California. Hopefully, they’ll be back stronger than ever this weekend. The Conductor likes two horses at Gulfstream today, and he’ll post plays from Sunland Park as well this afternoon. At Iron Bets, if you wager $250 or more at Sunland Park today, you get a FREE $20 bet. Let’s head into the weekend strong. Skip.

Race 2: 5 Furlongs. (Turf) Mdn 94k

#3 Lean Music Machine (5/2) – This gelding ran very well in his turf debut off a long layoff last time. He chased 3-wide and uncovered on the turn and rightfully tired late. The Conductor expects a forward move off that race and he draws a more favorable post today. 2/1 or better is worth a bet vs this group.

Race 7: 1 3/8 Mile. (Turf) F.OC 35000N1x

#8 Aspen Dawn (4/1) – This filly has suffered wide trips in her last two starts. The Conductor would argue she was best last time closing wide for 3rd against the flow. Unfortuneately, she draws another outside post today, but she does get a turf rider upgrade to Dylan Davis. The Conductor will trust Davis to give her a fair chance, and that’s all Aspen Dawn needs to get her picture taken today.

Mahoning Valley Monday Picks — January 6, 2025 | Best Bets & Analysis

Race 3: 1 Mile. MC 5000

#1 Convert (6/1) – This lightly raced gelding ran some decent efforts close to par for this level this fall. He has since moved into the Khadeem Galloway barn and is making his return today. Galloway is 19% with a +$0.24 ROI with starters 1st off the claim this year, and his runners fire with this spacing. With horses entering off a 46-90day day break, he’s 26% with a +$1.74 ROI.

Race 6: 1m70yds. Alw 26400n3L

#3 Secret Trouble (5/1) – This race should have a scorching pace with the #1 and #2 vying for the early lead. Secret Trouble is a little light on numbers, but looks to get an ideal stalking trip, and faces his weakest competition to date. He adds blinkers for the first time and gets a rider upgrade today. The Conductor sees him running a career best effort here.

Santa Anita Park Sunday Picks — January 5, 2025 | Best Bets & Full Card Analysis

A thrilling horse race featuring multiple thoroughbred horses galloping on a green track, with jockeys in colorful silks at Santa Anita Park.

The train is running sloooooowwww to start the New Year. We need more coal and fast. No excuses, cap harder. Skip

Race 6: 6 Furlongs. (Turf) Mdn 60k

*Gullet Shot of the Day #5 Springs (9/2) – The Conductor has been waiting to play this colt back from his debut. He missed break, steadied sharply entering turn, and still rallied to finish well against the front-runner flow. He’s working well entering today and now adds blinkers and Lasix for the first time. Most importantly, he gets a major turf rider upgrade from Baze to Rispoli. Springs is the Conductor’s best bet on the card if he remains 7/2 or better.

Race 10: 1 Mile. (Turf) OClm 50000

#7 Six Magpies (20/1) – The Conductor is going bomb hunting in the finale. This gelding is a deep closer and hasn’t had any pace to run at in his last two starts. Last time he was stuck on the rail and couldn’t find room until deep in stretch. When it was far to late, he finally got out and finished well with a huge gallop out miles in front of the pack. This gelding is better than his recent form shows and this is a mediocre group he faces today. As long as a quick pace develops as the Conductor expects, he has a major chance.

Santa Anita Park Friday Picks — January 3, 2025 | Best Bets & Handicapping

A racehorse with a jockey in colorful attire racing at Santa Anita Park, showcasing the excitement of horse racing.

0/2 Wednesday at Santa Anita, as both longshots came up short. Not the start to the new year the Conductor wanted, but it is just the beginning. Aim small, miss small, but really never miss at all. Skip.

Race 1: 5½ Furlongs. MC 32000

#1 Toppers At Seaside (4/1) – This colt vied for the lead setting a quick pace last time at Los Alamitos. The inside was not where you wanted to be on that track and he did well to only be beaten a length. Now he drops in class, cuts back in distance, and looks to get an ideal outside stalking trip. The Conductor thinks he’s the one to beat in the opener and he looks to be a square price.

Race 9: 1 Mile. (Turf) MC 50000

*Gullet Shot of the Day #7 Lookin for Curly (10/1) – This colt will be an overlay running for a small barn that is only 5% on the year. However, he ran a solid closing 3rd at this level and distance on the dirt last time. His breeding suggests he’ll improve trying the turf for the first time. If he does, he’s a major contender. The Conductor like that the small barn get a capable rider in Geovanni Franco as well. Let’s make a score in the finale.
