Santa Anita Park Sunday Picks — February 2, 2025 | Best Bets & Full Card Analysis

A thrilling horse race at Santa Anita Park featuring multiple jockeys in colorful silks riding fast horses on a green turf track.

Let’s have a nice lazy Sunday in the coal mines, passengers. Skip.

Race 1: 1 Mile. (Turf) Clm 25000

#3 Mas Rapido (4/1) – This gelding ran sneaky well last time. He was covered 2-wide and completely stuck behind horses in stretch. He finally angled out when the race was basically over and finished full of run. Now he takes a major class drop and gets a rider upgrade to Rispoli. 4/1 would be a gift from the pony gods.

#6 Bizzee Channel (5/2) – The Conductor is going for an ice cold 3/6 exacta in this first race. Bizzee Channel was best at this level last time with a brutal trip. He was bumped hard at the start, keen entering the first turn and still finished well, galloping out in front. Now 2nd off a layoff for strong connections, only Mas Rapido can beat him.

Race 6: 6½ Furlongs. (Turf) Mdn 60k

#3 Broski (6/1) – He has been well bet in his two tries at Del Mar after showing talent across the pond. He has disappointed the American punters, but he has been gelded since his last race. After being clipped, Broski has shown much improved workouts in the mornings. The Conductor thinks he has major upside in a wide open maiden race.

Race 8: 1 1/8 Mile. (Turf) OC 80000n2x

*Gullet Shot of the Day #6 Cathal (6/1) – This is another great betting race, with many closely matched contenders. The Conductor gives the edge to this gelding dropping in class, stretching out in distance and getting Berrios in the saddle. He’s consistently run strong late pace figures behind slow paces and tougher competition. Cathal looks to get a beautiful trip today with pace to run at. #9 Fearless Soldier (30/1) and #3 Red Cross Knight should keep the pace honest early.

Santa Anita Park Thursday Picks — January 23, 2025 | Best Bets & Pegasus Prep Analysis

A group of horses running on a racetrack with jockeys during a race under a clear blue sky.

Monday went well at Santa Anita with a 5/2 winner and a 24/1 2nd place finisher. Hopefully you passengers had the juicy exacta with Lila in the 8th race…and she was green in the stretch. Heading into the upcoming Pegasus weekend at Gulfstream we need all the coal we can get our hands on. The Conductor already has that card nailed down. Bountiful treasure is on the horizon. Skip.

Race 5: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.S.Mdn 60k

#6 Big Whoosh (7/2) – This filly debuted sprinting and finished well with a strong gallop out. That race looked like a clear prep for a stretch-out in distance. Like the Conductor expected, she shows up routing today and gets Lasix for the first time. Trainer Leonard Powell is 18% with a positive ROI this year with 1st time routers

Race 7: *6½ Furlongs. (Hillside Turf) F.OC 80000n2x

#1 Shuangxi (8/1) – The Conductor likes the “other” Mullins here at a much bigger price. She disappointed sprinting off the bench last time, but is working bullets entering today. This is the lowest class level she’s faced since last spring and she gets Berrios in the saddle. Shuangxi has major upside.

Santa Anita Park Monday Picks — MLK Day, January 20, 2025 | Best Bets & Full Card

A racehorse with a jockey in yellow silks running at Santa Anita Park during a race.

Bonus racing at Santa Anita Park this Monday. Shout out to Martin Luther King Jr. He would want all us passengers to be get rich today, he told me so. It’s time for the prices to come home. Skip.

Race 1: 6 Furlongs. (Turf) MC 50000

#1 Ocala Kid (9/2) – In his turf debut last time, Ocala Kid got stuck on the rail entering the stretch. He showed the Conductor real grit as he bullied his way through tight hole and galloped out in front of the pack. Now in his 2nd try mowing with a rider upgrade to Hernandez, he should take a step forward. Ocala Kid can start our day off right.

Race 5: 5½ Furlongs. F.Clm 5000b

#7 Crystal Proof (6/1) – This old mare showed speed off a year layoff last time. Now she drops in class and shortens in distance. This is a very evenly matched field and the Conductor will take a stand with her. He expects her to match one of her best efforts from 2023 today, and that will put her in the winners’ circle.

Race 6: 6 Furlongs. (Turf) F.Alw 50000s

#4 Princess Midnight (6/1) – This filly won nicely sprinting at this distance at Santa Anita two starts back. She tried two turns last time and had a no chance trip. She was wide around the first turn and made a suicidal early move on the backstretch. Now returning to 6 furlongs with a nice inside draw, the Conductor likes her chances.

Race 8: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.Mdn 60k

#3 Lila (10/1) – This filly was well bet on debut and had a no chance trip far back behind a slow pace and hung wide on the 2nd turn. Now she adds blinkers and gets Lasix for the first time. With a nice inside draw today, the Conductor sees her getting a more favorable trip. There’s more under the hood than we saw last time.

Santa Anita Park Saturday Picks — Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf Sprint (January 18, 2025)

Thoroughbred horse racing with a jockey in green and orange silks riding a horse on a grassy track.

Only 2nds and 3rds Friday at Santa Anita. The Conductor may have to retire soon. Skip.

Race 7: 6 1/2 Furlongs Hillside Turf Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf Sprint Stakes

#5 Andiamo Ragazza (10/1) – This filly finished close behind the heavy favorite #7 Stay and Scam (6/5) last time they faced down the hill. Andiamo Ragazza overcame a poor trip that day and that was with Tyler Baze aboard. Her last dirt race can be ignored and she looks primed to run her best with Hernandez in the saddle today. The Conductor is licking his chops at double digit odds.

Race 9: 1 1/8 Mile. (Turf) S.Unusual Heat Turf Classic Stakes

#2 None Above the Law (10/1) – This gelding made an early move into a quick pace going 1 1/2 miles last time and rightfully tired late. Now he drops in class, cuts back in distance and draws well to the inside. The Conductor he’s a major contender in a race where the favorites look beatable.

#7 Aligato (6/1) – The only other horse that concerns the Conductor is this gelding off the bench. He has the best turf numbers in the field at this distance and can win if he fires his best shot. Entering out for the Glatt barn with Prat aboard, that seems likely.

Santa Anita Park Thursday Picks — January 16, 2025 | Return After California Fires, Full Card Best Bets

A dynamic scene of thoroughbred horses racing on a green track with jockeys in colorful silks during a sunny day.

Santa Anita is finally back after the terrible fires and we get four racing days this week. Time to welcome it back with open arms and then bankrupt the place. Let’s Ride.

Race 1: 1 1/8 Mile. (Turf) Mdn 60k

#1 Final Edition (9/2) – This colt finished strong last time sprinting and now stretches out to a route off a bit of a break. He’s been working well and is bred to get the distance just fine. Final Edition gets a nice rail draw today and the Conductor thinks he has the most upside of the bunch. 7/2 or better works for him.

Race 6: 6 Furlongs. (Turf) Alw 50000s

#4 Yacowlef (4/1) – This gelding moved forward after switching into the Jeff Mullins barn last time. He was 3-wide on the turn and still showed a strong late kick. Now he gets back to his best distance with a nice post. Mullins is 15% with a +$1.50 ROI this year with horses making their 2nd start for him. Rispoli in the saddle on the turf is an added bonus.

Race 8: 6½ Furlongs. (Turf) F.Clm 32000n2L

#6 Jai Ho (9/2) – The Conductor was really impressed with this filly’s maiden breaker three starts back despite a poor turf trip. She disappointed in her next turf race, but that was against much tougher competition. Then dropping in class and switching to dirt last time, she ran a solid closing 2nd. Moving back to the lawn today, she looks primed to run a peak effort. Hernandez hopping aboard only enhances the Conductor’s confidence.

Race 10: 1 Mile. (Turf) Clm 25000

*Gullet Shot of the Day #3 Bizzee Channel (9/2) – The Jonathon Thomas shippers have been firing in California and he’s got another live one here. This gelding has run better than it looks in his last two starts, being too close to quick paces vs tougher. Now he shortens in distance, draws well to inside and looks to pick off a weaker west coast turf bunch. 3/1 or better would be a treat.

Santa Anita Park Sunday Picks — January 5, 2025 | Best Bets & Full Card Analysis

A thrilling horse race featuring multiple thoroughbred horses galloping on a green track, with jockeys in colorful silks at Santa Anita Park.

The train is running sloooooowwww to start the New Year. We need more coal and fast. No excuses, cap harder. Skip

Race 6: 6 Furlongs. (Turf) Mdn 60k

*Gullet Shot of the Day #5 Springs (9/2) – The Conductor has been waiting to play this colt back from his debut. He missed break, steadied sharply entering turn, and still rallied to finish well against the front-runner flow. He’s working well entering today and now adds blinkers and Lasix for the first time. Most importantly, he gets a major turf rider upgrade from Baze to Rispoli. Springs is the Conductor’s best bet on the card if he remains 7/2 or better.

Santa Anita Picks Today

Race 10: 1 Mile. (Turf) OClm 50000

#7 Six Magpies (20/1) – The Conductor is going bomb hunting in the finale. This gelding is a deep closer and hasn’t had any pace to run at in his last two starts. Last time he was stuck on the rail and couldn’t find room until deep in stretch. When it was far to late, he finally got out and finished well with a huge gallop out miles in front of the pack. This gelding is better than his recent form shows and this is a mediocre group he faces today. As long as a quick pace develops as the Conductor expects, he has a major chance.

Coast to Coast Pick 5 Picks — February 18, 2023 | Saturday Stakes Sequence

Horses racing out of the starting gate at Santa Anita Park with mountains in the background.

The first real Derby prep is here, but there is work to be done across this great country. The Ductor will have Fairgrounds picks up soon. His generosity continues. Hit the Coast to Coast pick 5 between the eye’s today. Skip.

Santa Anita Park Race 3: 6½ Furlongs. (Turf) S.Mdn 67k

#2 Finally an Eddie (4/1) – This 1st time starter cost 385k and is bred to relish the lawn. The Callahan barn has them ready to roll on debut with a $+1.22 ROI unleashing runners on the turf this year. He’s the lone horse that can beat the rightful favorite #1 Catalina Eddy (8/5). Catalina Eddy ran well in his 1st start on dirt and is bred to step forward on grass today.

Gulfstream Park Race 10: 5 Furlongs. (Turf) S.OC 20000n1x

#5 Feelthebeat (4/1) – This is the most difficult race of the sequence, with the majority of the runners exiting synthetic races with little turf form. This gelding has shown he’s best on turf and ran sneaky well off the bench over synthetic last time. He had a brutal trip and still made a nice middle move. He’s ready to run his best today.

Other Contenders: #1 Lovin Makes Cents (10/1), #3 Exchange Day (7/2) #4 Brit’s Candyman (4/1), #8 Nic’s Bro (10/1)

Santa Anita Park Race 4: 1 1/16 Mile. F.OC 50000n1x

#1 Manorelli (8/1) – This filly is stretching out to a route off of some solid efforts sprinting. Her last effort was better than it looks, where she was stuck inside in a duel. There is not a lot of early pace in this field and nobody can go with her early. Alone on the lead is never a bad place to be at Santa Anita.

#7 Smoothlikebuttah (4/1) – This mare continues to run strong late pace figures into slow paces and last race was no different. She has the figures to beat this group and drops in class today. She’s up against the pace scenario again, but she’ll be an overlay and is good enough to win anyway.

Gulfstream Park Race 11: 1 1/16 Mile. F.G3 Royal Delta Stakes

#2 Kathleen O (7/5) – This is a match race between her and #5 Classy Edition (3/2). Even though Classy Edition will have the early jump on her, the Ductor thinks Kathleen O will be too much down the stretch. He’ll single her in the Coast to Coast Pick 5.

coast to coast pick 5

Santa Anita Park Race 5: (Turf) 1 1/4 Mile. F.Alw 25000

Nothing creative here. #2 Aloha Kitten (7/2) or #4 Harper’s Gallop (2/1) will get us paid. Skip

Coast to Coast Pick 5 Picks — February 4, 2023 | Saturday Stakes Sequence

A horse racing at Gulfstream Park with a scoreboard displaying race results in the background.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming. We had a few shorter prices come thru on turf Pegasus Day , but the Ductor gave up on Art Collector long ago. The Saturday cards are starting to get filled with stakes races and the Ductor is percolating. Let’s whack the Coast to Coast Pick 5 this weekend. and buy the paintings back. Skip.

Gulfstream Park Race 10: 7 Furlongs. F.G3 Forward Gal Stakes

#3 Automatically (3/1) – The Ductor is leaning towards singling this filly in the 1st leg. She ran well enough in the Breeders’ Cup with a bad trip to show she has a class edge over this group. She thrashed #6 Lynx (6/1) two starts back, who the Ductor puts 2nd here. Pletcher is 24% off the layoff this year and the Ductor will trust him.

Other Contenders: #7 Undervalued Asset (7/2), #8 Red Carpet Ready (4/1)

Santa Anita Park Race 4: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.G3 Megahertz Stakes

#8 Oakhurst (8/1) – This filly showed potential in the Chad Brown barn early in her career and ran her best career race last time. She was wide going into the first turn and showed a nice turn of foot closing into a slow pace. Now she cuts back to a mile and gets a rider upgrade to Prat. There will be a hot pace in this race and she will be flying late.

Others Contenders: #2 Hamwood Flier (5/1), #3 Nadette (5/1), #6 School Dance (3/1)

Gulfstream Park Race 11: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) F.S.G3 Sweetest Chant Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #9 Stephanie’s Charm (12/1) – The Ductor will argue that she ran better than the favorite #7 Cairo Consort (2/1) last time even though she was beaten. While Cairo Consort was tucked in behind horses, she was wide around both turns and still finished strong, galloping out in front. The Ductor likes her steady progression and is praying this morning line is close to accurate.

coast to coast pick 5

Other Contenders: #8 Heavenly Sunday (5/1)

Gulfstream Park Race 12: 1 1/16 Mile. G3 Holy Bull Stakes

#4 Cyclone Mischief (2/1) – This colt took a giant step forward last time and if he runs the same race he’ll win easy. The Ductor is a little weary that effort was his first time with Lasix and now he’s back to all natural. Unfortunately, the Ductor doesn’t like any prices in this race. The alternative is #6 Legacy Isle (7/2). He set a blistering pace last time and did well to cross the wire first even though he was tired. He should get a more favorable trip here, alone on the lead.

Santa Anita Park Race 10: 1 Mile. (Turf) G3 Thunder Road Stakes

#7 There Goes Harvard (8/1) – This horse was impressive last year before something went wrong at Del Mar and has been on the bench since. All three of his turf races were good and he was able to win a Grade 1 on dirt, which isn’t his preferred surface based on his breeding. He’s working his eyeballs out and the Ductor likes that they’re putting him back on the turf. The barn isn’t messing around returning him to stakes company and calling Johnny V to ride.

#9 Hit The Road (5/1) – He’s the class of the field and hopefully his dull effort last time helps his price. That race was clearly a prep for this spot. They take the blinkers off and return him to his best distance today. If he can get a good trip from the outside draw, he’s dangerous to finish our Coast to Coast Pick 5.

Others Contenders: #2 Du Jour (15/1), #4 Bob and Jackie (15/1), #10 Dark Shift (8/1), #12 Cabo Spirit (6/1)

Coast to Coast Pick 5 Preview: 1/7/2023

A diverse crowd of spectators watching a horse racing event, showcasing various individuals engaged in the experience.

I know, I know I’ve been getting your messages. “Mr. Ductor please I am broke after the holidays and can’t cap like you. Please save me, I need your help. You are the greatest, where have you gone?!” Now, now passengers, the Ductor hasn’t gone anywhere. Time off is needed in this game especially with how stinky winter racing has become in North America. The Ductor won’t play daily at NYRA until the spring, but he’ll start upping his play as Derby prep season comes upon us. For the next few weeks the Ductor is going to cap the sequences for the coast to coast pick 5 with a $1 minimum and 15% takeout. The Ductor likes that its solely at Gulfstream and Santa Anita and is going to back to longer form posts. He’ll have his breakdowns for both Saturday and Sunday up each week along with their corresponding podcast. Cheers to ripping out gullets the entirety of 2023. Skip

Gulfstream Park Race 9: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.Ginger Brew Stakes

#3 Cairo Consort (7/5) – She’s the clear favorite exiting a 3rd place finish in the Breeders’ Cup and moving into a stronger barn. The Ductor can’t fault you if you single her in the Coast to Coast Pick 5. However, he doesn’t think she’s the cinch the morning line suggests.

#9 Erna (4/1) – This filly has shown gameness in her 1st two starts and has an early pace edge over this group. The outside post is no concern with Saez, who will take her right to the front. She’ll have the lead turning for home and will fight to the wire.

#5 Stephanie’s Charm (12/1) – In a stakes race off a layoff last time, she ran very well in just her 2nd career turf start at 30/1. She overcame some trouble and closed strongly into a slow pace, making up 3 1/2 lengths in the stretch. 2nd off the bencch today, she is improving and dangerous.

#7 Navy Goat (8/1) – She’s slow on figures, but be leery of the numbers. Her last two victories have been on synthetic and a quirky Kentucky Downs turf course. This filly beat a strong maiden field that day and her breeding screams turf. She posts a bullet work entering today and Rosario takes the mount for a top barn. She smells like a live one.

Santa Anita Park Race 4: 6½ Furlongs. (Hillside Turf) S.Alw 72000n1x

#7 Larry’s Legend (30/1) – The Ductor loves the hillside turf course and nothing leads you to more juicy winners than prior form down the hill. This colt was nailed at 81/1 in his lone start down the hill and that race gives him a mighty chance to beat this group without much hill experience. At this morning line, he must be on every ticket.

#1 Queen’s Code (8/1) – He had a no chance trip going 5-furlongs last time and now stretches out down the hill. He’s another contender who’s run well over this course with limited experience. He ran 2nd in his only try.

#3 Thorne House (5/2) – He made an early, wide move into a blistering pace last time and faded late. He’s logical.

#10 Moose Mitchell (4/1) – This gelding had a good trip last time going 5-furlongs. The Ductor would usually be against a horse like this, but again he’s one of the few that have experience on this hillside course. He ran a good 3rd in his only try down it three starts back.

Gulfstream Park Race 11: 7½ Furlongs. (Turf) Mdn 84k

#6 Moon Cat (4/1) – This gelding ran well on debut despite having to shuffle badly early in the race. Making his 2nd career start for top connections and switching to the surface he’s bred for, he’s the Ductor’s top pick.

#12 Jamestown (10/1) – This colt has major upside and is a price that could knock many tickets out. He broke slow and ran evenly going 5-furlongs in an off the turf race on debut. That was a clear prep for this spot. He’s bred to relish the lawn and that sprint put enough speed into him where he should be able to clear from the outside post.

Santa Anita Park Race 6: 6½ Furlongs. (Hillside Turf) F.S.Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf Sprint Stakes

#3 Alice Marble (5/2) – Unlike race 4 at Santa Anita, almost all of the fillies and mares in here have shown an affinity for this turf course. You could make a case for any and the Ductor wouldn’t knock you. He hates taking a short price in a race like this, but this mare has a significant class edge. 2nd off the layoff for top connections, she looks like the winner.

#2 La Deuxieme Etoile (6/1) – This filly set a hot, contested in her first try down the hill and held on nicely last time. Any horse that wins their first race over this surface has the Ductor’s respect.

#5 Eddies New Dream (7/2) – She was in an impossibly tough spot last time and now cuts back to her best distance. She beat #3 Alice Marble down the last year.

Santa Anita Park Race 8: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.S. Leigh Ann Howard California Cup Oaks

*Gullet Shot of the Day #1 Carole Lombard (8/1) – The Ductor is planning on singling this filly to end the Coast to Coast Pick 5. The two favorites #8 Sell the Dream (2/1) and #9 Cast Member (5/2) draw to the outside and have yet to win on turf at this distance. Carole Lombard broke her maiden at Del Mar decisively last time. She was up close to a quick pace and was able to finish strongly. A step forward off that effort puts her in the winners’ circle today, especially with a nice ground saving trip.

coast to coast pick 5

Golden Hour Pick 4 Key Horses for Sunday, April 25

Several racehorses competing on the track at Santa Anita Park with jockeys in colorful silks.

A chalk filled Saturday is never good for the Conductor. Back to California we go. Let’s hit the Golden Hour Pick 4. Skip.

Santa Anita Race 9: 1 Mile. (Turf) Singletary Stakes

#4 Sword Zorro (3/1) – He had no chance last time trying to close into a slow pace. Making his 2nd start off the bench vs a weak stakes field, the Conductor will single him.

Santa Anita Race 10: 5½ Furlongs. F.Clm 16000b

*Gullet Shot of the Day #2 Commas Save Lives (12/1) – Taking a big drop in class and switching back to dirt where she’s won, this filly will appreciate the shorter distance. She pressed a wicked pace last time and did well to split the field. This group is miles weaker than she’s been facing.

golden hour pick 4

Golden Gate Race 10: 1 Mile. OC 62500n2x

#5 Exclusive Speaker (30/1) – The Conductor can see anything happening in this race and he finds this gelding intriguing. He’s steadily progressing and stretching out to a route for the first time. If he likes the added distance, he can hit the board and light up the trifecta at a monster number.

Golden Gate Race 11: 1 Mile. (Turf) S.Silky Sullivan Stakes

#12 Big Talker (5/1) – The Conductor likes this gelding quite a bit to end the Golden Hour Pick 4. He’s the only proven turf router in the group that is also a closer. He looks to get a perfect setup here with a hot, contested pace up front.
