Saratoga: Key Horses for Wednesday, July 21

A horse racing track featuring a grandstand with modern architecture, surrounded by lush greenery and a well-maintained turf.

Poor Sunday for Ductor with nothing but slop and favorites. Speed was strong on both turf and dirt the first week of the Saratoga meet and it was much too chalky for the Ductor’s liking. He sees that changing this week, but the forecasts don’t look great. We’ll focus on the dirt races Wednesday. Skip.

Saratoga Race 2: 6 Furlongs. Clm 14000n3L

#5 Mission Wrapitup (6/1) – Dropping in class and switching from turf to dirt, he’s rounding into form and getting back to his best surface. He has dirt races competitive with this group and should be forwardly placed in a race without much pace. The Ductor likes a cold exacta with the clear one to beat #6 Copa (7/5).

Race 6: 5 1/2 Furlongs F.Mdn 80k

*Gullet Shot of the Day G Money Liv (6/1) – The favorites are exiting slow debuts and the Ductor like this filly’s work tab at Churchill. Moquett can win 1st out and Saez hops aboard for a barn he rarely rides for. The Ductor smells a live one.

Saratoga

Race 9: 1 1/18 Mile. OC 100000n3x

#4 Core Beliefs (12/1) – He ran a solid even effort off a year layoff last time at Churchill and is working well entering today. He’s a Grade 2 winner at this distance and has past efforts to give him a chance here. He looks to get a favorable trip with a hot pace to close into as well.

Saratoga and Monmouth Park: Key Horses for Saturday, July 17

Dynamic horse race featuring multiple jockeys in colorful silks competing on a dirt track, showcasing speed and excitement.

2/3 Yesterday at Toga with two 2/1 winners. It’s been a decent start to the Saratoga meet so far for the Ductor, but he’s yet to connect on a bombs. We have a monster Saturday of racing across the country as summer racing is in full effect. It’s a shame the Ductor won’t see the sun today. Skip.

Saratoga Race 7: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) OC 80000n2x

*Gullet Shot of the Day #8 Gear Jockey (8/1) – This colt is very consistent and is cutting back to a sprint for the first time in his career. He get’s a rider upgrade and the Ductor sees this as a wide open race. He has the upside to jump up and win.

Saratoga

Saratoga Race 10: 1 1/8 Mile. (Inner Turf) F. G1 Diana Stakes

#6 Summer Romance (4/1) – Her stablemate rallied to beat her last time and the Ductor sees this race going through them two again. Speed has been very favorable over this turf course and she has a major early pace edge over this field. She’ll be tough to run down.

Monmouth Park Race 10: 1 1/16 Mile. F.G3 Molly Pitcher Stakes

#6 Bajan Girl (9/2) – Throw out her last race in the slop and she’s the most likely winner in the Ductor’s opinion. She has strong back class and looks to get a favorable trip on or up close to a moderate pace.

Monmouth Park Race 11: 1 3/8 Mile. (Turf) -G1 United Nations Stakes

#10 Tribhuvan (3/1) – The likely 2nd choice, he will have it all his own way on the front end. He finished very well last time against a tougher group.

Monmouth Park Race 12: 1 1/8 Mile. Haskell-G1

#4 Hot Rod Charlie (6/5) – Not very creative, but the Ductor will single him. His Bemlont was more than impressive in defeat after setting that scorching pace. Lock it up.

Sabbath Sunday: The Conductor’s Prayers at Saratoga

Saratoga Picks

Two more racing days left at Saratoga. Bitter sweet, Let’s Ride.

Race 1: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) Mdn 75k

#4 Bahamian Prince (6/1) – 1st off the claim for George Weaver, he moves to turf where this gelding is bred to improve. He was favored in his debut on dirt and ran decent, pressing a hot pace.

Race 2: 7 Furlongs. F.MC 30000

#2 Elegant Rose (7/5) – Chalk

Race 3: 6 Furlongs. Clm 25000n2L

#6 Laughing Manners (6/1) – His early pace figures give him an advantage over this group.

Race 4: 5 ½ Furlongs. (Turf) F.Alw 92000n1x

#9 Honey I’m Good (8/1) – Returning to the races off a long layoff, she ran competitive figures for this level on dirt as a two-year-old. With natural progression she is very dangerous, and she has turf in her pedigree.

Race 5: 5 ½ Furlongs. MC 50000

#10 Bobbyfromthepalm (4/1) – This colt is working well for strong connections and this race is wide open. The Conductor likes that he was only 50k at auction, so he can be well spotted.

Race 6: 7 Furlongs. Clm 32000

#6 Always Forgiven (8/5) – The Conductor never forgives.

Race 7: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) F.Mdn 90k

#3 Bridal Path (6/1) – She lunged at the start in her debut and made a middle move before flattening out late. The Conductor sees her taking a big step forward today.

Race 8: 7 Furlongs. F.Mdn 90k

#2 Orsay (3/1) – This daughter of American Pharoah was 1.2 million at auction and is working well for Chad.

Race 9: 1 Mile. (Inner Turf) F.Clm 75000

#3 Connectivity (5/2) – She looks to get a perfect trip, with a hot pace up front to close into.

Race 10: 6 Furlongs. F.Alw 50000s

*Gullet Shot of the Day #4 Olive Kat (6/1) – She set a blistering pace in the mud at this level last time and posted a bullet last work. She’ll appreciate the shorter distance today.

Saratoga

Race 11: 7 Furlongs. F. G1 Spinaway Stakes

#7 Shippy (9/2) – Drawn well to the outside, the Conductor liked this girl’s grit last time at Saratoga. 9/2 would be an absolute joke.

Race 12: 1 1/16 Mile. (Inner Turf) S.Alw 80000n1x

#5 Opt (7/2) – He ran a good 2nd behind a next out winner this last start. This is a very weak field and the Conductor is against the Chad Brown runner in this spot.

The Conductor’s Woodward Stakes Day Plays at Saratoga

A racehorse with a jockey in yellow silks competing on a dirt racetrack.

This where the Conductor is at heading into Saratoga’s final Saturday. Be good to him pony gods on Woodward Stakes Day, Let’s Ride.

Race 1: 1 1/16 Mile. (Inner Turf) Mdn 90k

#1 Structor (2/1) – 850k Chad Brown 1st timer. It’s Scructor for the Conductor in the first.

Race 2: 5 ½ Furlongs. (Turf) Clm 40000n2L

#2 No Regrets (7/2) – The Conductor regrets nothing about his decision to live his life on the rails.

Race 3: 6 Furlongs. F.G2 Prioress Stakes

#5 Royal Charlotte (4/1) – Dropping out of a loaded G1 Test stakes where she was heavily bet, The Conductor likes that Chad brings her back quickly. She’s drawn nicely to the outside and the Conductor thinks the odds on favorite #3 Break Even (1/2) is vulnerable.

Race 4: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) OC 62500n2x

#4 Fig Jelly (5/2) – She should get the lone lead in this turf sprint and that’s all the Conductor needs to see.

Race 5: 7 Furlongs. Mdn 90k

#8 Mud Pie (10/1) – This colt debuts for a small barn that has a winner from only two starters this meet. He’s posting solid works, his sire is 16% with 1st timers and his dam has produced a stakes winner. The Conductor has that feeling in his left knee that he’s going to pop.

Race 6: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) G3 Saranac Stakes

#2 Good Governance (2/1) – Chad Brown

Race 7: 7 Furlongs. Mdn 90k

#4 Extreme Force (8/1) – She hasn’t broken well in her 1st two career starts but showed talent in her debut, running 3rd in a race that has come back live. With a clean break today, she’ll have every chance at a nice number.

Race 8: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) Mdn 90k

#1 Get Set (5/1) – Exiting two decent sprint efforts on dirt, he stretches out and tries turf for the 1st time. Trainer Steve Klesaris is 17% with a +$2.75 ROI moving horses to the lawn for the 1st time this year.

Race 9: 7 Furlongs. F.Alw 92000n1x

#3 Arrifana (7/2) – This filly looked like the goods in her debut and is working like a monster entering today.

Race 10: 1 1/8 Mile. (Turf) G2 Glens Falls Stakes

#2 Fools Gold (5/2) – One of the Chad Brown runners will win this race, you passengers figure out which one.

Race 11: 1 1/8 Mile. G1 Woodward Stakes

*Gullet Shot of the Day #4 Mongolian Groom (15/1) – This gelding is in good form and has run two bang up races in a row. He was only beaten a length by Catalina Cruiser two back and he hung on for 3rd after chasing a lone front-runner around the track in the Pacific Classic last time out. He looks to get a great trip sitting in the first flight of runners behind a moderate pace up front today and there aren’t any superstars in this field. The Conductor is going to key him in the exacta and trifecta and use mainly the three runners exiting the Whitney around him (#3 Vino Rosso (7/2), #5 Preservationist (7/2) and #7 Yoshida (5/2). This will be a great rendition of the Woodward Stakes.

woodward stakes

Race 12: 6 Furlongs. Mdn 90k

#4 Tolerant (4/1) – The Chad Brown and Pletcher trainees are the ones to beat, but this 1st timer catches the Conductor’s eye. He posted a bullet 46 flat work two back and his sire is winning at a 16% clip with runners in their debut. This jockey/trainer combo is also red hot.

The Conductor will key her in the exacta and trifecta.

Saratoga

Race 4: 5½ Furlongs. (Turf) Alw 50000s
